Awards were given to the projects implemented by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with the goal of a sustainable and resilient city. Arkitera 10, the projects of the İzmir Agricultural Development Center and the October 2021 Monument and Commemoration Place, the Peynircioğlu Ecological Corridor Project and the “İzmir Garden” promotion stand at the Hatay EXPO won the 2022 World Green City Awards.

Arkitera Award for two projects

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality won the Arkitera Employer Award 2021, which was given for the thirteenth time this year in order to honor employers who support qualified architectural production by considering public responsibilities. The Metropolitan Municipality won the award with the Izmir Agriculture Development Center, which it put into service in order to inform the society against possible drought due to climate change and to explain the right methods in agriculture in practice. The project of the center was prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Studies and Projects.

The October 10 Monument and Commemoration Place, named "The Circle of Life", whose project was prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Parks and Gardens Department, was awarded the "Incentive Award" by the Arkitera Architecture Center selection committee. Vahyettin Akyol, Head of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Studies and Projects, and Erhan Önen, Head of the Parks and Gardens Department, received the awards at a ceremony held in Istanbul. The monument was built to commemorate the 10 citizens who were murdered in front of the Ankara Train Station on October 2015, 103.

The second award for the Peynircioğlu Ecological Corridor Project

Cheesecioğlu Ecological Corridor Project, which was created by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on the coastal part of Cheesecioğlu Stream in Mavişehir, Halk Park and the following route, within the scope of combating the global climate crisis, was awarded the World Green City Awards in 2022, organized by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH). It was among the top 3 projects. Other award-winning cities were Melbourne, Australia, and Mexico City, Mexico.

The awards ceremony will be held in Korea in October.

Within the scope of the project, which is an application of the "Urban Green Up-Nature Based Solutions" project with a grant of 2020 million euros within the scope of the "HORIZON 2,3" program of the European Union, both flood control was provided in the stream and a new green area was created around the stream with nature-friendly practices without using an impermeable surface. . The project, prepared by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Department of Studies and Projects, was deemed worthy of the TMMOB Chamber of City Planners Raci Bademli Good Practices Encouragement Award.

Two awards for the Izmir Garden of Hatay EXPO
