A ceremony was held at the Cumhuriyet Square in İzmir on the 48th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation. Mustafa Özuslu, Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, also attended the ceremony.
A ceremony was also held in Izmir on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, celebrated as the 48 July Peace and Freedom Day in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, İzmir Deputy Governor Barış Demirtaş, TRNC's İzmir Consulate General Vice-Consul Almila Tunç, Ministry of Foreign Affairs İzmir Deputy Representative Adnan Zafer Bekçekaral, Aegean Army Chief of Staff Brigadier General Selçuk Yavuz, Air Training Chief of Staff of the Command, Brigadier General Mustafa Tarkan Gümüş, Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Area Command Rear Admiral Fatih Sezal, Commander of the Engineering School and Central Command Brigadier General Mehmet Rıfat Alkan, veterans, relatives of martyrs, rectors, political party representatives and citizens attended.
Starting her speech by commemorating everyone who contributed to the Cyprus Peace Operation, TRNC's İzmir Consulate General Vice Consul Almila Tunç said, "As the TRNC, we will continue to stand tall thanks to the support of our motherland Turkey, who is always with us."
