Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy attended the delivery ceremony of the new mobile library vehicles at the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Ersoy stated that they are now showing movies towards the sunset with the curtain they have mounted on the mobile libraries.
Ersoy stated that as the Ministry, they have significantly increased their investments in libraries in recent years.
Explaining that they decided to change the concept of libraries and that they implemented the concept of "living libraries", Ersoy continued as follows:
“Libraries are no longer just buildings of desks, chairs and shelves. We are turning it into a living center that hosts many activities such as culture, art and sports. In this context, we not only design our new library investments in this way, but also renovate our existing libraries and gradually pass them on to this new concept over time.”
Minister Ersoy stated that there are other changes and innovations, and said, “We decided to go to the people in need, especially our young people, in shopping malls, train stations and airports, in places where people visit and stay, instead of doing it in fixed and classic points as in the past. . In the last 4 years, we have started to open libraries at many points in shopping malls, train stations and airports.” he said.
The goal is to deliver mobile libraries to all provinces.
Emphasizing that they made changes in the content of the libraries, Ersoy continued his words as follows:
“In this period, we started to add baby libraries and libraries for young people to the regular and specialized libraries. The mobile libraries that we have built for the last 10 years have been built especially in places we cannot access, in places farther from city centers, in remote corners, in order to go to the feet of our citizens and those in need.
Within the framework of the living library concept, we also made some changes and content changes in these mobile libraries. As you can see here, we have installed a new curtain over our mobile libraries. Now, it also performs movie shows with a projection device on that screen towards sunset, our libraries are at the destinations. There are television systems in it, and we also provide training especially for our young children and on subjects that require specialization, via LCD and DVD with television systems.”
Ersoy stated that there are 3-4 thousand books in mobile libraries, that he visits a point every 15 days and that the books can be changed there.
Stating that they want to bring mobile libraries to all provinces in line with their 2023 goals, Ersoy noted that in addition to the existing 56 vehicles, 10 more vehicles have been put into service today.
Deputy Ministers Serdar Çam and Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Director of Libraries and Publications Ali Odabaş and some bureaucrats attended the ceremony.
