While the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2,98 percent in May, it became 73,50 percent on an annual basis. In May 2022, there was an increase of 2,98 percent compared to the previous month, 35,64 percent compared to December of the previous year, 73,50 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and 39,33 percent according to the twelve-month averages.

According to the annual CPI, 8 main groups showed lower changes and 4 main groups showed higher changes

The lowest annual increase was realized in the communication main group with 19,81 percent. The other main groups in which the increase was lower compared to the same month of the previous year were education with 27,48 percent, clothing and shoes with 29,80 percent and health with 37,74 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, the main groups with the highest increase compared to the same month of the previous year were transportation with 107,62 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 91,63 percent, and household goods with 82,08 percent, respectively.

According to monthly CPI, 5 main groups showed lower changes and 7 main groups showed higher changes.

In terms of main expenditure groups, the main groups that showed the least increase in May 2022 were education with 0,41 percent, communication with 1,49 percent and health with 1,61%.

On the other hand, the main groups with the highest increase in May 2022 were alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 6,53 percent, entertainment and culture with 6,15 percent, restaurants and hotels with 5,47 percent, respectively.

In May 2022, out of 144 main headings covered in the index (Individual Consumption Classification by Purpose-COICOP 5), the index of 9 main headings decreased, while the index of 5 main headings remained unchanged. There was an increase in the index of 130 main titles.

The special comprehensive CPI indicator (B) increased by 61,63 percent annually and 3,83 percent monthly.

In May 2022, CPI excluding unprocessed food products, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was 3,83 percent compared to the previous month, 27,59 percent compared to December of the previous year, 61,63 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. and an increase of 34,64 percent compared to the twelve-month averages.
