We Have Prepared Some Application-Oriented Programs

Adapazarı Vocational School Director Assoc. Dr. Osman Hamdi Mete said that the Department of Emergency and Disaster Management was established in 2015 and they could not admit students to the department for a few years because the academic infrastructure was not ready.

Stating that they accepted the first students to the department in 2020 after the preparations were completed, Mete stated that they wanted to train intermediate staff as a school, since Turkey is a country where disasters occur frequently.

Noting that they have met with places that provide actual service such as companies, AFAD, UMKE, Mete said:

“There are some lessons in our department about search and rescue, fire and first aid. Since we are distance education, we explain all of them theoretically. Since we think that this is insufficient, we have prepared some programs for implementation. This year, for the first time, we invited our students to our school to conduct search and rescue activities before they graduate. We prepared a program together with AFAD. Within this program, our students actually worked and received their education. We gave certificates to our successful students.”

Mete emphasized that there are students from many points of Turkey, their student portfolio is generally composed of people who have graduated from university and are working, and therefore the number of participation in the implementation activities is low.

Stating that 20 students participated in the application, Mete said, “Turkey is a disaster area. Our aim is to draw attention to this issue and to train colleagues who will work on this issue. In disaster situations, there is a need for trained personnel in search and rescue operations. We do our best to provide this training.” she used the phrase.
