Ankara Metropolitan Municipality mobilized all its units to fight the ongoing forest fires in and around Marmaris district of Muğla.

After Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş put the units on alert, Ankara Fire Brigade, ANFA General Directorate and Department of Urban Aesthetics, Science Affairs and Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement sent a total of 14 vehicles and 32 personnel to the fire zone yesterday evening.

Due to the ongoing fire, the teams of Ankara Fire Brigade, ANFA General Directorate, Urban Aesthetics, Science Affairs, Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement Departments completed their preparations and set out after a reinforcement team was requested in the region.

To respond to the fire under the coordination of AFAD with a total of 14 vehicles and 32 personnel; 2 personnel reached the fire area in the morning with 2 all-terrain first response vehicles, 12 water sprinklers, 4 firefighters, 1 tankers, 1 dozer, 1 excavator, 2 tow truck, 20 pioneer vehicles.

ABB President Mansur Yavaş, on his social media accounts, said, “Our team, consisting of 14 vehicles and 32 colleagues, set out for Marmaris to respond to the fire. Our teams are on the field and we are with you with our prayers #Marmaris”.

Stating that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality teams will support the fire extinguishing works on a 7/24 basis in the fire area, Chief of Fire Brigade Salih Kurumlu said, "After the forest fire that took place around the Marmaris district of Muğla, upon the request of AFAD, with the guidance of our President Mansur Yavaş, our municipality has units set out to help put out the fire. We hope that the fire will be suppressed as soon as possible and we will not face a bigger disaster”, while the Head of Earthquake Risk Management and Urban Improvement Department Mutlu Gürler made the following assessments:

“We regretfully learned that the fire in Marmaris has reached the level of a national disaster. Upon the request of AFAD, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality set out with a serious number of vehicles and personnel under the coordination of our Fire Brigade Department to support the personnel in the field. Our hope is to extinguish the fire as soon as possible.”
