IGA Istanbul Airport signed a Training Center Accreditation agreement with ACI within the scope of the Global Education Agreement at the Global Implementation Support Symposium 2022, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Istanbul. Within the scope of the agreement, İGA Istanbul Airport became the newest partner of ACI's training program through its training structure, İGA Academy.
ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 28, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization – International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) between 1 June-2022 July in Istanbul, was held at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center.
The symposium, which was held to evaluate the latest digital tools, key initiatives and collaborative efforts to support the recovery, innovation, resilience, sustainable development and operational solutions of the aviation industry after the Covid-19 pandemic, brought the aviation world together.
Within the scope of the symposium, a Training Center Accreditation agreement was signed between ACI and İGA at İGA Istanbul Airport within the scope of the Global Education Agreement. IGA Istanbul Airport CEO Kadri Samsunlu, ACI World General Director Luis Felipe de Oliveira and International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar also attended the signing ceremony.
As part of the contract signed with ACI, İGA Istanbul Airport became the newest partner of ACI's training program through its training structure, İGA Academy. Thus, ACI and IGA can deliver all regionally determined courses, accredited by ACI, with the facilities of IGA. As per the agreement, İGA will be able to both offer these courses to its own personnel and market this training to trainees from other countries applying.
IGA Istanbul Airport CEO Kadri Samsunlu made a statement at the signing ceremony: “As IGA Istanbul Airport, we continue to represent Turkey successfully in the aviation industry. As you know, the rules in the aviation industry are extremely important and training always makes a big difference when learning these rules. With this approach, we signed an agreement with ACI and brought an international education program to our country. With the agreement, as the world's largest airport and the region's most important global hub, we transfer our knowledge and experience in the field of aviation to future generations, and support the development of the sector through education.
Luis Felipe de Oliveira, General Director of ACI World: “IGA Istanbul Airport is one of our member airports and Kadri Samsunlu has recently joined us as a member of the ACI World Board of Directors. We are working to improve our perspective so that airports can better serve their passengers. Our goal is to double our passenger numbers in the next 20 years. As the umbrella organization of aviation, we continue to work with airports, ICAO and other organizations in order to establish a common ground. Airports represent 60 percent of the working area in the sector. For this reason, we are proud to contribute to the social and economic development and development of the system with our training programs.
At the signing ceremony, International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar touched upon the net zero emission targets of airports and said: “As ICAO, we continue our efforts to reduce global carbon emissions. Negotiations for achieving net zero emissions by 2050 continue. I would like to state that we have all the technical elements to keep this promise. Airports and airlines have announced that they are committing to net zero emissions by 2050. In the next period, governments have a great responsibility for the realization of long-term goals.”
