In the "Champions of Exports Award Ceremony" organized by Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB), Ford Automotive became the company that realized the most exports in the automotive industry in 2021. At the automotive pride night hosted by OIB Chairman of the Board Baran Celik, the top 2021 companies with the highest exports in 110 were awarded in the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.

OIB Chairman of the Board Baran Çelik: “We are a big family that has been Turkey's export champion for 16 consecutive years and adds value to the economy with a total foreign trade surplus of 70 billion dollars. The chip crisis triggered by the pandemic, the breaks in the supply chain and finally the Russia-Ukraine war negatively affect the industry on a global scale. However, we will turn this challenging process into new opportunities. In order to turn our proximity to the European market into an opportunity, in addition to value-added production, it is of great importance to strengthen our logistics network and produce and transport in accordance with the EU's carbon regulation at the border.”

In the "Champions of Export Award Ceremony" organized by the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB), the companies with the highest exports in 16 in automotive, which has been the leading sector of the Turkish economy for 2021 consecutive years, were awarded. Ford Automotive received an award as the champion company of 2021 at the night of pride hosted by Baran Çelik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OİB. At the night, the representatives of the top 2021 companies that made the most exports in the automotive industry in 110 were awarded in Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze categories.

Along with TİM President İsmail Gülle, OİB Board of Directors and executives of leading companies in the automotive industry also attended the Champions of Export Award Ceremony. Ford Automotive's award was presented to Ford Automotive General Manager Güven Özyurt by TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle and OİB Chairman Baran Çelik.

The award ceremony started with a short promotional film of the automotive industry, which exports to all 193 countries in the world according to the United Nations records. In the film, the automotive industry is a pioneer in innovation with its 191 R&D and Design Centers and 50 thousand engineers, exporting close to 30 billion dollars a year, employing 300 thousand people, producing 10 vehicles every four minutes, exporting 7 of them and 225 thousand dollars. It was emphasized that it is a huge sector that creates value. OIB Chairman of the Board Baran Celik, who made the opening speech after the movie, said that the automotive industry has been a big family as Turkey's export champion sector for 16 consecutive years and that it has reached an industry that adds value to the economy with a total foreign trade surplus of 70 billion dollars.

Çelik: “We have reached everywhere including small island countries in exports”

Stating that the automotive exporters have the biggest share in the success of the automotive industry, Baran Çelik said, “Today, there is no country in the automotive industry that we do not export to. Our exporters, including small island countries, did not leave an export market that we could not reach. We applaud all our exporters, especially our automotive exporters, who wave the flag of our country all over the world. Automotive contributes to our country's economy in many areas, from employment to high technology, from R&D investments to domestic production. It also works in cooperation with many basic sectors such as iron-steel, chemistry, textile, electricity-electronics, machinery, which are the locomotive of the economy. We have a key role in the economy with the input, sales revenue, added value, tax revenues and wages provided by these sectors. In addition, our industry creates a large business volume and employment in the marketing, dealership, service, fuel, finance and insurance sectors that enable and support automotive products to reach the consumer.

Stating that the Turkish automotive industry is the 13th largest motor vehicle manufacturer in the world and the 4th largest in Europe according to last year's data, Baran Çelik said, “We are again the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in Europe. Our main industry companies have increased their investments every year and have contributed greatly to our country's position as one of the world's automotive centers. With its high capacity and wide product range, our automotive supply industry can produce the most strategic parts of the world's top quality brands flexibly and quickly. The synergy between our main industry and our supply industry is also the basis of our export successes.”

“We will turn proximity to Europe into an opportunity”

Baran Çelik, who gave information about the 16-year championship history of the automotive industry in his speech, said, “When we went back to 2006, when we reached the first export championship, Turkey's exports were 86 billion dollars and automotive exports were 15 billion dollars. Today, our country's exports have reached 225 billion dollars, and our automotive exports have reached 30 billion dollars. Despite these successes, we are always working for more. Global problems in the last three years have prevented our automotive exports from reaching higher levels. First the pandemic, then the chip crisis triggered by the pandemic and the breaks in the supply chain, and finally the Russia-Ukraine war continues to negatively affect the automotive industry globally. While disruptions in production continue, the global automotive market cannot recover. We see that this year will also be completed without a full recovery.”

Emphasizing that the automotive industry will transform the current difficult historical process into new opportunities, Baran Çelik said: “We can use the global crises to seize the opportunities in the supply chains and keep up with the Green Transformation, and thus, we can quickly adapt to the great transformation that is being experienced in the automotive industry. After the pandemic, there is a trend to bring supply centers closer in Europe. In order to turn our proximity to the European market into an opportunity, in addition to value-added production, it is of great importance to strengthen our logistics network and produce and transport in accordance with the EU's carbon regulation at the border.”

Gülle: “We will exceed the 250 billion dollars export target by the end of the year”

TİM President İsmail Gülle also said that after the pandemic, with the effect of the chip crisis, it was going through a period when it was difficult to find new vehicles, but that the automotive industry would gradually find its balance. Pointing out that the world and Turkey will experience the inflationary period that they have forgotten for a while, Gülle said: “We are going to a new world order in which oil and energy prices have reached unbelievable levels. At the same time, we saw how important it is for countries to produce themselves. As exporters, we were affected by the pandemic for a short time in 2020, but regardless of the conditions, we broke a record in 20 of 18 months. As the sole umbrella organization of 103 thousand exporters in Turkey, TIM and Exporters' Associations worked 7 hours a day, 24 days a week. In an environment where all parameters were disrupted, we had the opportunity to produce better things for our country and our people for the future. We increased our exports, which was 169 billion dollars in the pandemic year, to an extraordinary figure of 225 billion dollars last year. We are targeting 250 billion dollars this year. From April last year until the end of April this year, we have exceeded 240 billion dollars. This means that by the end of the year, we will have exceeded our target. As Turkey, we trust our production power. We have an automotive family that will exceed 100 billion dollars in the 300th anniversary of our Republic, where our domestic automobile will also be off the band. I would like to thank the exporters who contributed to the formation of this figure.”
