Attention to This Disease in Women!

Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Op.Dr.Esra Demir Yüzer gave information about the subject. Cervical ulcers are a common disease in women. Cervical sores are an abnormal appearance of the cervix. Cervical inflammations, cervical erosion, cervicaltropion give the appearance of a wound in the cervix. What Kind of Complaints Do Cervical Wounds Cause in Women? How is the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cervical Wounds?

Cervicitis (Cervical Inflammation)

It is an inflammatory condition of the cervix tissue. It can be seen in women of all ages who have sexual intercourse. Infections and traumas to the cervix can be counted as the causes of cervicitis. Blood flow to the region increases in cervical infections and traumas. The area with increased blood flow takes on a more reddened and swollen appearance.

Cervical Erosion and Ectropion

Cervical erosion and ectropion. The inner and outer surfaces of the cervix are furnished with different cells. This difference causes the inner surface to appear red and the outer surface to appear pink. The boundary region separating the inner and outer surfaces is called the transformation zone. The progression of cells lining the inner surface to the outer surface is called ectropion (cervicalversion). This condition is not a cancer. Ectropion in pregnancy and young girls is considered normal. It may occur due to traumatizing the cervix during the use of condoms or tampons, and the use of spermicide or lubricating cream in birth control pill users.

What Kind of Complaints Do Cervical Wounds Cause in Women?

  • Cervicitis can be seen alone or in combination with some other diseases in women with pain in the groin and unusual yellow-green, foul-smelling vaginal discharge.
  • abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Burning when urinating (dysuria)
  • Backache
  • In cases with delayed treatment, the mucus, which acts as a plug in the cervix, is disrupted, preventing the passage of sperm through the cervix and may cause infertility.
  • When there is cervix inflammation in pregnant women, there is a risk of miscarriage (abortion) and premature birth (preterm birth). Postpartum lung and eye infections are more common in newborns born to mothers with cervicitis.

How is the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cervical Wounds?

Since cervical sores do not have specific complaints, they are mostly diagnosed as a result of gynecological examination of women who apply to a gynecologist for another disease. There are definitely a few of the above-mentioned complaints. In women with vaginal discharge due to infection, first of all, examination and treatment are planned for this. After vaginal infection, cell screening is performed with cervix (cervical) smear test.

Treatment is planned according to the result of cervical pap smear. If there is abnormal cell development in the cervical mear test, a cervical biopsy is taken under colposcopy. Colposcopy allows for detailed examination by taking biopsy from the areas that give abnormal reaction to a specially prepared solution squirted into the cervix. The purpose of treatment in cervical wounds; It is to kill the inflammatory cells in the wound and the cells that should not be in the area other than the cervix and to ensure the development of healthy tissue instead. For this purpose, cauterization or cryotherapy is applied to the cervix.

Cervical cauterization

It is the destruction of the cervix by creating heat by means of electric current. This process is also called wound burning among the people. For this purpose, fine pen-shaped tools are used. The cauterization process can be very slightly painful. Does not require anesthesia. After cauterization, the intact tissue covers the destroyed tissue and ensures its healing. Wound healing takes 1-2 months. When done with good equipment, the results are pretty good.

Cervicalcryotherapy

It is the process of freezing the cervix with the help of liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide. It is popularly known as the wound freezing process. It is a process performed using special apparatus. Mostly pain is not felt. Wound healing may take 1-2 months. Cervical wounds should not be taken lightly and should never be delayed. Make an appointment without wasting your time.
