With the package they named Fit for 55, European countries focused on finding ways to turn policy proposals developed to reduce carbon emissions into practice. In this context, renewable energy sources such as hydroelectricity were listed among the priority items by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Association) program, which aims to increase cooperation between countries and of which Turkey is one of the founders. In this context, TED University Mechanical Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Action proposal PEN@HYDROPOWER (Pan-European Network for Sustainable Hydropower), which includes Selin Aradağ, was ranked 70nd among 2 projects selected this year within the scope of COST.

Sharing his evaluations about COST, which is applied by more than 600 projects every year, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu said, “It is pleasing that our action proposal, which we developed together with our partners from Europe, was deemed worthy to be supported as the 2nd among many projects. Considering the need for sustainable and clean energy in Europe and the world, we believe that our PEN@HYDROPOWER project will open an important door for the transition to clean energy and the more meaningful use of water in energy production. I am proud to be a part of the project's board of directors to represent TED University and Turkey," he said.

Hydropower is aimed to become widespread in Europe

Stating that the primary goal of the action proposal accepted by the European Union COST program is to create a network between researchers, engineers, academics, industry and civil society representatives across Europe, and to support the projects of research groups on the subject, TED University Mechanical Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ said, “This action, which we call PEN@HYDROPOWER, will host activities that will increase studies such as the expansion of hydropower in Europe, its digitalization, its sustainable application and its regulation to help it be used with other clean energy types. The action, which was designed as a networking project, was among the projects deemed fit for support by the European Union this year. Our project is ranked 70nd among 2 projects determined by COST”.

The project will last for 4 years

Explaining that the action will take 4 years and that he will serve as a member of the board of directors of the action, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ concluded her evaluations with the following statements: “Our action proposal named PEN@HYDROPOWER is in line with COST's mission to ensure coordination of researchers at European level and support network activities of European scientists, within the scope of the budget to be provided by the EU, Action Management Committee meetings, scientific workshops for 4 years. and will lead publications through seminars, scientific visits, courses and research conferences. Our action, which will touch on branches of science such as Mechanical Engineering, thermodynamics, electrical and electronic engineering, sustainable engineering, economics, business and hydrology, will focus on bringing all stakeholders together to facilitate cooperation between research groups in Europe.”
