Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank introduced the TÜBİTAK Encyclopedia of Social Sciences and said, “There are 20 articles in 1.156 different sciences from anthropology to philosophy, from history to literature, from geography to law, from theology to sociology, from politics to art. Nearly 700 of our scientists contributed to the creation of this valuable work, which took about three years, and it will be open to everyone's free access at encyclopedia.tubitak.gov.tr.” said.

Minister Varank, in his speech at the TÜBİTAK Encyclopedia of Social Sciences Promotion Program, expressed his satisfaction with participating in the event, and said that when the Ministry of Industry and Technology is mentioned, some people only think of the wheels turning in the industry and the codes written in computer programs.

THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE ENCYCLOPEDIA

Underlining that the TÜBİTAK Encyclopedia of Social Sciences, which was introduced, is one of the most important works in its field with its quality and gap, Varank thanked everyone who contributed and said that he also volunteered to contribute. Noting that added value should be sought not only in industrial and technology products, but also in intellectual products, Varank said, "We are talking about the Encyclopedia of Social Sciences, the most comprehensive encyclopedia ever written in the field of social sciences, which will make significant contributions to the development of the field of social and human sciences." said.

20 SEPARATE SCIENCES, 1.156 ARTICLES

Stating that the encyclopedia includes 20 items in 1.156 different branches of science, from anthropology to philosophy, from history to literature, from geography to law, from theology to sociology, from politics to art, he said, “Nearly 700 of our scientists contributed to the creation of this valuable work, which took almost three years. This work is not only offered in print, it will be open to everyone's free access at encyclopedi.tubitak.gov.tr. Our encyclopedia will be constantly updated in a dynamic structure, and its scope will continue to expand and enrich.” used the expressions.

OVER 1 BILLION TL SUPPORT

Varank stated that they act with the vision of the National Technology Move, knowing that Turkey's independence comes from technological independence in every business, and we prioritized developing joint projects in the field of social and human sciences in our international and bilateral cooperation activities. We encourage scientific activities and continue to support projects in 34 different fields, covering all fields of social and human sciences. In this sense, we have provided more than 2000 billion liras in support to approximately 2.500 projects since 1.” said.

CALL RESEARCHERS

Varank, on the other hand, underlined that the field of social sciences continues to be supported within the scope of the "Horizon Europe" program, which started last year, including Turkey, and called on researchers to follow these messages closely. Stating that they have mobilized all opportunities, starting from primary school children, to raise awareness about science in society, Mustafa Varank gave information about their work in this field.

34 DIFFERENT AREAS

Pointing out that they have support and programs in 34 different fields, Minister Varank said, “I would like to open a separate parenthesis to one of our studies. We all know by now that we cannot overcome the challenges that require transformational and innovative solutions with a single scientific discipline. We saw the most striking example of this during the pandemic process. We have experienced together a process where work is not just about health, but we are transforming in every field from technology to sociology, from social psychology to commerce.” he said.

SUPPORT FOR 97 PROJECTS

“At this point, we have started an important study by identifying the need to reveal the social contexts of the global epidemic.” Varank said, “We have launched a special call through TÜBİTAK titled 'Kovid-19 and Society: Social, Human and Economic Effects of the Epidemic, Problems and Solutions'. We supported 97 projects that applied to this call from many different fields from city and regional planning to communication, from social psychology to mass communication, from public administration to sociology.” used the expressions.

Conclusions And Recommendations

Reminding that the results and suggestions of the supported projects were shared with the scientific world at the event, Varank said, “With this study, we have established a scientific basis for our policies to manage an area that we think will have lasting effects, such as a pandemic. Epidemics, climate change and irregular migration are among the global risks with the highest impact in the upcoming period. We have received the contribution of social and human sciences in tackling these difficulties that affect social life. We will continue to pursue this understanding.” he said.

2 MORE ACADEMIC JOURNALS

Mentioning the importance of TÜBİTAK's contributions in the field of Social and Human Sciences, Varank also shared an important development with the participants. Varank said, “Currently, we have 11 academic journals scanned in international indexes in the fields of science, engineering and health at TUBITAK. Hopefully, we will publish 2 academic journals in the field of social and human sciences soon. Thus, we will provide an important opportunity for our academicians and researchers working in the social and human sciences in our country.” said.

SKY OBSERVATION ACTIVITIES

Referring to the sky observation activities, Varank said, “We said that this year we will hold our Sky Observation activities in 4 different cities. In this direction, our second stop will be Van between 3-5 July. For those who want to participate in the event, I would like to remind you that our applications continue until June 17.” used the expressions.
