Winners of Izmir Waste Battery Collection Campaign Received Their Awards

The winners of the 25th Waste Battery Collection Campaign organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality received their awards. Within the scope of the campaign, 42 tons of waste batteries were collected in a year, and 477 tons of waste batteries since the beginning of the campaign.

In the campaign, which was held for the 25th time this year, awards were given in 8 categories: children, youth, adults, kindergartens, schools, mukhtars, district municipalities, Bizim Ev Family Child Youth Support Center. The winners received their awards from the Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Mustafa Özuslu, at a ceremony held at the Alsancak Historical Gas Factory.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Şükran Nurlu, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Agricultural Services Department Head Şevket Meriç, municipal bureaucrats, headmen and supporters of the campaign attended the program.

Speaking at the ceremony, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu said that as İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, they organize a waste battery collection campaign every year during the Environment Week, and that they dispose of the collected waste batteries safely by placing waste battery collection bins and boxes at many points throughout the city.

Stating that the battery is not a waste and it is recycled, Özuslu said, “We are doing our ecosystem a favor by evaluating the waste. If we can create this awareness in our beloved children and make a habit of recycling, we will be living in a prosperous life in a sustainable and livable environment, without destroying the nature. 42 tons of batteries collected in one year in ecosystem friendly campaign

Under the leadership of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, with the cooperation of Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers Association (TAP) and district municipalities, 42 tons of waste batteries were collected in one year, and 477 tons of waste batteries since the beginning of the campaign.

Who was the winner?

In the “Children” category of the 25th Waste Battery Collection Campaign; Esmira Yıldırım, who collected 117 kilograms of waste batteries, came in third, and Nil Asya Öner came in second with 138 kilograms. Ali Bulut Önder, who collected 410 kilograms of waste batteries, came first.

In the "Youth" category; Alara Vural, who collected 183 kilograms of waste batteries, came third, Ataberk Köylü, who collected 424 kilograms of waste batteries, came second, and Galip Karayel, who collected 600 kilograms of waste batteries, won the first place in the campaign.

In the category of "Adults"; Selami Yıldırım, who collected 195 kilograms of waste batteries, came third, Uzay Gölcük collected 400 kilograms of waste batteries, and Kübra Altıntaş, who collected 700 kilograms of waste batteries, came first.

In the category of “Kindergartens”; Mevlana Kindergarten third place, Karşıyaka Kindergarten second place, Private Bostanlı Palmiye Kindergartens won the first place. Smart boards were given to kindergartens.

In the "Schools" category; Petkim Primary School came in third, Egekent Primary School came in second, Özdere Ogan Timinci Secondary School came in first. The plaques were handed over to the school representatives who took the stage.

In the category of “Muhtars”; Third place in Konak Güzelyalı District Headman, Karşıyaka Mustafa Kemal Neighborhood Headmanship second place, Bayraklı Korfez District Headmanship won the first prize.

In the category of “District municipalities”; Konak Municipality is third, collecting 4 thousand 631 kilograms of waste batteries, Çiğli Municipality is second, collecting 5 thousand 191 kilograms of waste batteries, and 6 thousand 535 kilograms of waste batteries are collected. Karşıyaka Municipality was the first.

In the category of “Our House, Family and Child Youth Support Center”; Seyhan Gülçin, Tahir Erkek and Arif Çetin received awards.

The winners of the campaign were given a laptop computer, the second place a desktop computer, and the third place a tablet.
