Another important stage has been left behind in the construction of the first unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS). Welding of the main circulation pipeline (ASBH), which started on March 19, 2022, was completed on May 25. Experts connected 68 joints of the pipeline in 28 days.

Following the completion of ASBH's welding process, a ceremony was held at the Akkkuyu NPP construction site to congratulate the workers and experts directly involved in the welding and control operations.

Anastasia Zoteeva, General Manager of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş, presented the 29 people who took part in this study, the certificates of appreciation for their success in the ASBH welding works of the first unit of Akkuyu NPP, and gifts prepared to commemorate the day. Among the employees who received a certificate of appreciation were the managers of subcontractors, welders, non-destructive testing engineers, assembly specialists, and other specialists who performed the technological operations with high professionalism and completed the welding operations on time in accordance with the project schedule.

The welding works were carried out by the joint venture of TITAN 2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT A.Ş, the main contractor of Akkuyu NPP. The quality of the works and compliance with the performance requirements were checked by the experts of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş, the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) and Assystem, an independent construction inspection company.

After completing the welding of each weld seam, NDT engineers evaluated the quality of the joints using ultrasonic, sealing and other control methods. The heat treatment of the joints was carried out in parallel with the welding processes. In the next stage, the experts will coat the inner surface of the seams with special stainless steel coatings, which will serve as an additional protection for the pipeline linings.

AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş General Manager Zoteeva, in her speech to the welders at the award ceremony, said, “The best of the best is working on the Akkuyu NPP project! Qualified and experienced specialists demonstrated well-coordinated and efficient work at all stages of ASBH's establishment. All work, including pipeline assembly, welding, high temperature seams and quality control of joints, has been done with a high level of professionalism. We can say that we have taken an important step towards commissioning the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP, which is our main target. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the welding work for their responsibility and meticulousness, the highest level of professionalism and a well-planned organization in all technological processes. Our entire team in the Akkuyu NPP project is proud of you!” said.

The ASBH welding works benefited from the rich experience of Russian experts in the construction of the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh, the Novovoronej NGS-2 in Russia, the Leningrad NGS-2 and the Belarusian NPP in Belarus.
