Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the developments in the aviation sector. Karaismailoğlu noted that the number of aircraft landing and taking off at environmentally and passenger friendly airports increased by 91 percent in domestic flights and reached 73 thousand 764 in international flights, with an increase of 136,1 percent, in May compared to the same month of the previous year. Announcing that the total aircraft traffic increased by 59% to 571 thousand 101,5 with the overpasses, Karaismailoğlu drew attention to the fact that 165% of the aircraft traffic in May 510 was reached.

Last month, domestic passenger traffic was 7 million 230 thousand and international passenger traffic was 8 million 604 thousand at the airports serving throughout Turkey. Together with the transit passengers, we served a total of 15 million 865 thousand passengers. Compared to the same month of the previous year; There was an increase of 134,1 percent in domestic passenger traffic, 253,6 percent in international passenger traffic, and 186,8 percent in total passenger traffic. Total freight traffic increased by 49.8 percent and reached a total of 338 thousand 107 tons. Thus, we passed 2019 freight traffic in May.”
5 MILLION 679 THOUSAND PASSENGERS PREFERED ISTANBUL AIRPORT IN MAY
Emphasizing that the aircraft traffic that landed and took off at Istanbul Airport last month reached 10 thousand 518, 27 thousand 60 on domestic lines and 37 thousand 578 on international lines, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, He stated that a total of 1 million 531 thousand passengers, 4 million 147 thousand, were served on the lines.
THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS TRAVELING BY AIR IN 5 MONTHS EXCEEDED 57 MILLION
Karaismailoğlu pointed out that in the January-May period, the aircraft traffic arriving and departing from the airports increased by 30.5 percent in domestic flights and reached 290 thousand 907 with an increase of 93,6 percent in international lines, compared to the same period of the previous year. He stated that it has increased to 212 thousand 247.
Pointing out that the mobility in passenger traffic has also accelerated, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said, “It has reached 28 million 574 thousand in domestic lines and 28 million 413 thousand in international lines at airports in Turkey. We served a total of 5 million 57 thousand passengers, including transit passengers, in the 115-month period. Compared to the same period of the previous year; There was an increase of 54.7 percent in domestic passenger traffic, 161.4 percent in international flights, and 94.5 percent in total passenger traffic. Airport freight traffic; It reached a total of 277 million 621 thousand tons, including 1 thousand 110 tons on domestic lines and 1 million 388 thousand tons on international lines. In the 5-month period at Istanbul Airport, a total of 39 aircraft traffic, 407 thousand 111 on domestic flights and 921 thousand 151 on international flights, was carried out. At Istanbul Airport, 328 million 5 thousand passengers traveled on domestic lines and 530 million 16 thousand passengers traveled on international lines. A total of 15 million 21 thousand passengers preferred Istanbul Airport.”
MORE THAN 6 MILLION PASSENGERS TRAVEL AT ANTALYA AIRPORT
Minister of Transport, Karaismailoğlu, also made evaluations about passenger and aircraft traffic in tourism-oriented airports where international traffic is heavy. Noting that the number of passengers at the airports in tourism centers is 5 million 655 thousand in domestic flights and 5 million 666 thousand in international lines, Karaismailoğlu stated that the air traffic is 47 thousand 358 in domestic lines and 42 thousand 319 in international lines. Karaismailoğlu said, “A total of 2 million 378 thousand passengers, 857 million 3 thousand on domestic lines and 235 thousand on international lines, traveled at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. The number of passengers at Antalya Airport was 2 million 144 thousand, with 4 million 163 thousand on domestic flights and 6 million 308 thousand on international flights. A total of 817 thousand 248 passengers traveled at Muğla Dalaman Airport, 744 thousand 410 passengers at Muğla Milas-Bodrum Airport, and more than 217 thousand passengers at Gazipaşa Alanya Airport.
PASSENGER MOBILITY WILL ALSO INCREASE IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS
Pointing out that there was very little left to catch up with passenger and aircraft mobility in the pre-epidemic period, Karaismailoğlu reminded that they supported the transportation sector during the covid period. Noting that airline investments did not slow down, Karaismailoğlu noted that they opened Tokat Airport and Rize-Artvin Airport in the first months of this year. Noting that passenger mobility will increase in the coming months, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu added that they are following the developments closely and that the investments are planned accordingly.
