ABB Press and Public Relations Department has published the story book titled “A Hittite Legend Ankuva”, specially prepared for children between the ages of 7-12 and shedding light on the Hittite Period.

YAVAŞ: “WE WANTED THE STORIES TO MAKE AN EDUCATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL ROLE”

In the preface of the book, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş emphasized that they aim to teach the history of the capital to future generations, and gave the following statements:

“The Capital of the Republic, Ankara, has been the scene of a permanent settlement dominated by different civilizations since the early ages. Since there is no information about Ankara in the written documents until the Hellenistic period, information and culture about Ankara in the Hittite Period can be reached through the centers in Central Anatolia. It is stated by historians that our city was founded by the Phrygian Kingdom and, according to legend, by the Phrygian King Midas, instead of the Hittite city of Ankuva, in a place with a ship anchor (Anker). In the context of the ancient history of our city, we, as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, have included a fictional story about the history of Ankara, especially the Hittite Period, the remains of the Hittite Civilization within the borders of Ankara, and the city of the Hittites called Ankuva. While revealing this, we aimed for the stories to play an educational and instructive role on the reader with the historical and mythical information they contain. In this way, you will get to know our Ankara better, and you will both have fun and learn from the adventures of the story heroes.”

MINORS FROM THE CAPITAL WILL LEARN THE HISTORICAL HERITAGE OF ANKARA CLOSELY

Book; It consists of 6 parts: Birth of Ankuva, or Stone, Fourteenth Inscription, Bitik Mound, Gavur Castle, and Mysterious Night in Gordion.

Author Metin İpek, who also wrote the detailed history of Hittite mythology, Hittite history and historical places such as Çengelhan and Suluhan in the Ankara Ulus region, said about the 120-page book, “In the context of the ancient history of Ankara, especially the Hittite Empire settlements in Ankara between the ages of 7-12. We aimed to introduce it to our children. We included these stories in order to eliminate the uncertainties about the Hittite Empire's city called Ankuva in Ankara and to teach children by building a fictional story on it.”
