Historical Metro Han in Tünel Prepares to Meet with Art Lovers

IMM Heritage is preparing to bring together the historical Metro Han in Tünel, which operates as the General Directorate of IETT, with art lovers. IMM President visiting the 'Fractal' exhibition opened in Metro Han, where restoration works have made great progress. Ekrem İmamoğlu“I invite Istanbulites to visit the exhibition. Let them come and see what Metro Han is, how it is wanted to be evaluated, and what kind of journey it takes. We will continue to produce such buildings and areas that are renewed and presented to the citizens with a new face in many points of Istanbul," he said.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlumade examinations in the historical Metro Han, which was restored by IMM Heritage teams to add value to the city's artistic life. İmamoğlu also visited the "Fractal" exhibition, which is prepared to meet art lovers, under the curatorship of Derya Yücel, in the Metro Han, which is under restoration. Accompanied by IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, İmamoğlu was informed about the exhibition by the curator Yücel. İmamoğlu expressed his thoughts on Metro Han, which will soon begin to serve Istanbulites and art lovers who will visit the city, among his works of art.

“WE HIGHLY WISH IT TURNED INTO A BUILDING WITH AN IDENTITY”

Saying, “We have buildings in some parts of our city, some of which belong to the Metropolitan Municipality, and which do not correspond to the present in terms of usage updates,” İmamoğlu pointed out that Istiklal Street is a special case in this sense. Emphasizing that as IMM, they touch the buildings on the street that belong to individuals or other institutions, that are not used for their intended purpose, or that are abandoned, İmamoğlu said:

“The building we are in here is a historical structure of IETT called 'Metro Han'. In fact, it has a story that started with the Tunnel construction. We are talking about a steel structure. IETT uses this place as its Headquarters. But we are also aware that this building carries great opportunities. In other words, in this part of Istiklal Street, which we will consider as a starting point or an ending point, and at the connection point of the tunnel, the arrival and departure of people, it is really necessary to transform this place into a building with an identity that can integrate with other art activities that introduce, tell and draw people into the memory of the city. We wish so much. At this point, as the Metropolitan Municipality, we took a quick decision and, with a method that we now describe as a kind of simple repair, we want our building to turn into a very effective structure, multi-use, an area where the citizens can meet with very special examples of contemporary art when they enter and even inside. ”

“LET THEY COME TO SEE HOW WE WANT TO ASSESS METRO HAN”

Inviting the people of Istanbul to visit the Fractal held in the building, which is under restoration, İmamoğlu said, “It is a really powerful place to experience the journey. Let them come and see what Metro Han is, how it is wanted to be evaluated, and what kind of journey it takes. Here, they will probably both enjoy this artistic field, get to know the impressive structure, and say, 'Can I be a part of such a work,' in the future. I think this place will attract both entrepreneurs and artists. We will continue to produce such buildings and areas that are renewed and presented to the citizens with their new faces in many points of Istanbul," he said.

WHAT IS FRACTAL ART?

fractal; In mathematics, it is the common name for complex geometric shapes that often show self-similarity or proportional refraction. Fractal art, on the other hand, is digital image art made using ready-made computer programs or fractal formulas. The resulting shapes contain details close to infinity. Therefore, it is impossible to imitate shapes by human hands. The most important feature that distinguishes it from other types of art is that it cannot be imitated.
