Let's Prevent Lives From Losing Under Trucks

Recently, one of the most talked about topics in the visual and print media, and even on social platforms, is the disastrous traffic accidents that resulted in the death of the drivers as a result of the passenger cars hitting the TIR trucks from behind. In this article, I have written for you the important safety precautions for our heavy vehicle drivers in order to prevent fatal accidents that may occur when passenger vehicles crash into trucks from behind.

Trucks and Trucks Parked on Highways

Anyone using the highway can definitely see a TIR or truck parked on the roads or broken down. These risky situations can cause traffic accidents at any time. As well as parked vehicles, TIRs that suddenly slow down and stop while cruising on the road carry the risk of traffic accidents, just like parked TIRs.

Passive Safety System in a Rear-Slammed Passenger Car

When passenger vehicles hit the truck from behind rapidly, the airbag (airbag), which is one of the passive safety systems, does not activate since the front part of the passenger vehicle does not encounter any obstacles. The passenger car can be damaged up to the driver's seat due to the impact, and unfortunately, the occupants of the car can die disastrously. If the necessary precautions are not taken and applied, such accidents will always occur.

What Should Be Done to Prevent Accidents?

The most important security measures fall on our state. So what are they? In case of rear-end collisions with the trailer part of the TIRs, trucks and trailers that do not have a shock absorbing barrier in compliance with the standards, which are durable enough to prevent the crashing vehicle from entering under the vehicle in front, should ensure that the inappropriate trailers and trucks go to traffic after they are made to meet the standards. Again, one of the biggest duties of our state is to make pockets in sufficient numbers for drivers to use in cases where vehicles have to stop, by complying with the obligation of driving and resting in accordance with the legislation, and keeping the appropriate distances between them.

The next safety measure falls to our heavy vehicle drivers. TIR or truck drivers should have their periodic maintenance done against vehicle malfunctions. When compared to vehicles that are regularly maintained and serviced at authorized service centers, the number of malfunctions is incomparably higher while driving on the highway.

If a TIR/truck in question stops on the road for any reason or is parked temporarily, the driver must take the following measures specified in the highway traffic regulation;

  • In case of malfunction and long-term left of the trucks and trucks on the highway, 150×150 cm. placing a reflective obstacle sign in size,
  • In addition, according to the road, weather and traffic conditions, as well as day and night, regular parking and tail lights are turned on, if they cannot be turned on or if they cannot be clearly seen by other vehicle drivers from a distance of 150 meters, other vehicle drivers must be clearly at a distance of 150 meters from the front and back of the deteriorated vehicle. Putting a red reflector or a red light device so that they can see it.

Trucks Slowing Down While Driving

All road users must comply with the maximum and minimum speed limits determined by the highways in traffic. Passenger car drivers must keep their vehicle following distances in order to avoid rear-end collisions in case of sudden deceleration and stopping of TIRs and trucks while driving. Vehicle following distance is the value in meters of half the speed of the vehicle. In cases where road and weather conditions are not suitable, the following distance should be longer.
