How to Spend the Last Days Before YKS

Stating that the factors that affect the success of the students in the exams can be classified as knowledge level, psychological and physical preparation, Educational Consultant, Academician-Author Ecehan Ersöz explained how to spend the last days before YKS. The countdown has begun for the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS). About 3 million candidates will compete for their dream university on June 18-19. So how should the last days be spent?

'It must be done again'

Stating that the factors that affect the success of the students in the exams can be classified as level of knowledge, psychological and physical preparation, Educational Consultant, Academician-Author Ecehan Ersöz said, “It is important to spend the last days with questions to make up for the deficiencies in terms of knowledge level, to do it again as much as possible and to increase the exam condition. But this needs to be done without being too concentrated, by taking time to rest and to yourself,” he said.

'Avoid comparison'

Pointing out that how students prepare their minds and thoughts for the exam psychologically has an important role in success, Ersöz said, “It should never be forgotten that success is personal for psychological preparation. The most important point here is to stay in your own center. What I mean by this is that students focus on their dreams and goals and stay away from comparisons with others. Again, it is useful to try to stay away from all kinds of conflicts that will create stress and annoyance in all your communication.

'The stressor sohbetdon't go into

Ersöz suggested that for physical preparation, attention should be paid to sleep and nutrition, and walks should be taken in between, “Heavy and risky physical activities should be avoided in order not to cause possible accidents. On the last day, taking time to relax and create stress related to the exam. sohbetshould be avoided by staying away from them," he said.

Families have a big responsibility

Noting that families are the most important element that will contribute to the psychological preparation of children, Ersöz said, “It is very important for families to have a communication with the students that will contribute to their motivation this week. Giving confidence, reminding of their efforts and efforts, encouraging speeches and providing a conciliatory environment will greatly contribute to the students' feeling of well-being. Thus, their motivation and thus their success in the exam will increase. Again, this last week, families should not compare their children with others or make negative evaluations about their past work performance. All kinds of negative statements that may cause regret should be avoided. Otherwise, this approach reduces the potential for success.”

Watch out for these!

Expressing that there are some points that students should keep in mind on the day of the exam and during the exam, Ersöz listed the points to be considered as follows: “These are at least as important as preparing for the exam. A certain level of excitement is normal, of course. But silencing negative thoughts that cause stress is of strategic importance. Internal conversations such as 'I haven't looked at this issue, I don't know it' should not be made, which will consume the energy of the mind and make it tired. Again, time management is very important during the exam. Insisting on unknown or uncertain questions, unfortunately, creates a loss of both time and motivation. I recommend using the time allotted for the exam efficiently and continuing to solve it without giving up and giving up as the time decreases. You must use your right to the best of your ability until the last second. Let your exam motto be 'I deserve it, I will succeed'. I wish all our students great luck in the exam.”
