Contactless Payment Facility Becomes Widespread in Public Transportation in Izmir

Getting ready to host domestic and foreign visitors during the tourism season, İzmir offers ease of boarding with domestic and international contactless credit, debit and prepaid cards, as well as İzmirim Cards in public transportation vehicles. The system, which has been piloted at the airport bus lines and Üçkuyular Ferry Pier tolls for a while, will be valid throughout the city as of Sunday, June 5th. With the cooperation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Visa and İşbank, it will be possible to board ESHOT and İZULAŞ buses, metro, tram and İZDENİZ ships with contactless credit, debit and prepaid cards.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality; With the cooperation of Visa and İşbank, it is expanding the convenience of boarding to public transportation vehicles with contactless credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards throughout the city. The system, which has been applied on the ESHOT bus lines operating to Adnan Menderes Airport since January and at the Üçkuyular Ferry Pier tolls for a while, will be valid on ESHOT and İZULAŞ buses, metro, tram and İZDENİZ ships as of Sunday, June 5th.

In addition to Izmirim Cards, public transportation vehicles can also be boarded with contactless credit, debit and prepaid cards with the Visa logo. The new system will not be valid on İZTAŞIT vehicles and on the bus lines where the Pay As You Go tariff is applied. In the application, where the card acceptance infrastructure is provided by İşbank, transitions will be made with contactless cards with the Visa logo in the first place. It is envisaged that other schemes will be included in the system in the future.

It is also valid in sports and recreation areas.

Contactless credit and debit cards and prepaid cards, apart from public transportation vehicles; It can be used at the entrances to Balçova Cable Car Facilities, Sasalı Wildlife Park and Bornova Ice Rink, at the masquerade toll booths, on the Nostalgic Tram serving in the First Kordon, and at the İzmir Vegetable and Fruit Market parking lot in Buca.

President Soyer: It will make life easier

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, said that they are happy to expand this convenience, which is used in many world cities, throughout Izmir. Underlining that public transportation will continue to be used with İzmirim Cards, Mayor Soyer said, “In addition, public transportation will be available with contactless debit and credit cards and prepaid cards. This service; It will make life easier not only for the people of Izmir, but also for the visitors coming to our city from the country and abroad.”

Compliance with discounted tariffs is on the way

Emphasizing that the service will only be used by paying the full tariff fee at the first stage, President Soyer concluded his words as follows: “However, after the works to be completed in a short time; Students, teachers and citizens aged 60-64 will also start boarding at discounted rates with debit and credit cards. In addition, we will offer conveniences such as boarding pass and digital wallet by scanning QR codes through mobile banking applications in a short time.”
