The Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD) continues its efforts to produce the needed trains locally or with high locality rates. Speaking at the Parliamentary Kit Commission, General Manager of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ Hasan Pezük said, "In our investment program, it is planned to supply 2026 national electric mainline locomotives from our TÜRASAŞ General Directorate until 64."

Speaking at the commission, TÜRASAŞ General Manager Mustafa Metin Yazar said, “It is aimed to gain design capability in electric mainline locomotive manufacturing and to reduce our country's foreign dependency in this area by increasing the domestic rate to 60 percent.”

The institution develops new projects to ensure that the train sets, locomotives and wagons it needs are produced locally or with high locality rates.

2026 national electric locomotives will be delivered by 64

General Manager Pezük said, “Our increasing local rate will make sustainable contributions to our passenger and freight transportation. In this context, in accordance with the completion dates of TCDD's electrification projects in our investment program, it is planned to supply 2026 national electric main line locomotives from our TÜRASAŞ General Directorate until 64. Similarly, we continue to work on the procurement of 20 diesel-electric mainline locomotives from our TÜRASAŞ General Directorate," he said.

Production with domestic and national capital

Stating that they will receive the 3 national electric passenger train sets produced with domestic and national capital within the year, Pezük said, “In accordance with the completion dates of the electrification projects of TCDD, a total of 20 national electric train sets, 160 of which are suitable for 36 km/h and 225 of which are suitable for 56 km/h, It is planned to supply the passenger train set from our TÜRASAŞ General Directorate between 2022 and 2027.

External dependency will be eliminated

In his statement on production processes, TÜRASAŞ General Manager Mustafa Metin Yazar emphasized that they continue to work to eliminate foreign dependency in national design and advanced technology, electric mainline locomotive production. The author said, “With the E5000 Project, it is aimed to gain design capability in electric mainline locomotive manufacturing and to reduce our country's dependence on foreign sources in this field by increasing the domestic rate to 60 percent. Prototype production will be completed in 2022 and 2024 locomotives are planned to be produced and delivered by the end of 20. With the experience gained in the E5000 Project, the National Locomotive Platform Project, which is more suitable for the geography of Turkey, continues.”
