When Does Bluefin Tuna Fishing Start?

In the statement made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Fisheries and Fisheries, it was announced that this year Bluefin Tuna fishing will take place between 15 May and 1 July.

As a result of the outstanding effort and success shown on international platforms in the quota allocation processes as the Ministry, Turkey's bluefin tuna quota, which was 2017 tons in 943, was increased to 2022 tons for 2.

THE ALLOCATION OF THE QUOTA IS DETERMINED BY LOTS DRAWED BY NOTARY

Bluefin tuna fishing is carried out in accordance with the rules determined by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), to which 52 member countries, including our country, are a party, and in accordance with the fishing quotas allocated to fishing vessels by our Ministry, according to the result of the draw drawn in the presence of a notary public. If the fishing quotas of the fishing vessels allocated quota by our Ministry are filled before 1 July, fishing will be terminated for the fishing vessels whose quotas are full.

WILL BE HUNTED BY 26 FISHING SHIPS

Within the quota of 2022, tuna will be caught by 26 fishing vessels that have achieved a fishing quota by fulfilling the conditions determined by our Ministry. 54 fishing vessels will also carry out transport and support activities to be used in operations such as transferring the caught tuna to cages for aquaculture and transporting them to farms.

100 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUAL EXPORT REVENUE

Almost all of the tuna fish that are caught and subsequently farmed are exported to the USA and Far East countries, primarily to Japan, and they provide an annual export income of over $100 million to our country.
