IzTransformation good news from Soyer

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, gave the good news of the new waste separation project that they will implement at the opening of the fair. Soyer said, “With our IzTransformation project, initiated by our Waste Management Department and our municipal company, IzDoğa, we separate the wastes in our city while they are at the source. This process was carried out in Buca, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka and Narlıdere districts, in coordination with our district municipalities. At the end of the process, which will be completed in the coming summer months, we will recycle the packaging wastes of one third of İzmir's population back to the economy without going to waste. We will encourage all Izmir residents to throw their packaging wastes into recycling bins instead of garbage, with the sorting system we have established and public awareness activities. These wastes will be separated and recycled to the economy at our İzTransformation Packaging Waste Collection and Separation Facility operated by İzDoğa in Konak. Here, we have the capacity to separate and recycle up to 420 tons of packaging waste per day. With this project, we will increase the rate of packaging waste sent for recycling from 12 percent to 20 percent and then to 40 percent. I would like to point out that even achieving a 160% recycling rate means an additional XNUMX million liras in earnings.”

“We started to employ street collectors to provide the workforce”

Stating that the IzTransformation project has a social dimension to be proud of as well as its economic and ecological dimension, Soyer said, “We started to employ our street collector brothers in order to provide the workforce to take part in this valuable task. We not only provide them with jobs, but also save them from having to litter their entire lives. We offer better economic conditions, a high quality life and healthy working conditions. We offer two options to the people of Izmir. Throwing your waste in the trash as before or bringing it together with our recycling bins. If you choose the latter, you will protect our nature and public health. Moreover, you will contribute to our country's economy. In addition to all these, you will be the hope of our citizens who are looking for garbage on the streets to make a living, and you will enable them to start a new life. In short, from now on we will not say garbage in İzmir. We will be the balm for three different bleeding wounds of our country at the same time with each of our citizens who are included in IzTransformation. Based on all of these, we say, 'The transformation is starting in İzmir!'” He said.

Karalar: “Environment is the business of those who do not have excessive profits”

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar said, “I was very impressed with this fair. It is very important that it is both environmental and organized for unity and solidarity. For a long time, we, too, in Adana, attach importance to the fact that the city acts together. In almost every event, the municipality and the chambers hold it together. This is of great importance. I wish it to be a model in Turkey. I was also impressed by the fair. All of humanity is paying the penalty for our cruel treatment to nature these days. Nature punishes us for treating it cruelly. It is not difficult to predict what will happen to humanity if we are not careful. We have to show the utmost effort regarding environmental protection. The environment is the business of those who do not have a weakness for excessive profits. We say human and human health first," he said.
