The 29th Meeting of the International Union of Railways (UIC) Middle East Regional Board (RAME) was held in Amman, the capital of Jordan, under the chairmanship of Metin Akbaş, Chairman and Deputy General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways Administration (TCDD). At the meeting, Metin Akbaş, who gave information about the developments in the railway sector in our country in the last twenty years, drew attention to the change experienced with the High Speed ​​​​Railway transportation, which has become widespread since 2009. Akbaş gave information about the completed and ongoing railway projects by TCDD and informed the board members about the importance of renewable energy sources for sustainable railway development, environmentally friendly ecological bridge construction and pasture improvement.

Continuing its activities within the framework of the vision determined by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of TCDD successfully represents our country in the international arena. The 29th Meeting of the Middle East Regional Board of the International Union of Railways was held in Amman, the capital of Jordan, under the chairmanship of TCDD Chairman and Deputy General Manager Metin Akbaş. The representatives of the Railway Administrations of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Israel and Iraq and the Jordanian Minister of Transport attended the meeting. The meeting, in which UIC General Manager Françoise Davenne was also present, started after the speeches of TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş, Jordanian Transport Minister Wajeeh Azaizeh, UIC General Manager Françoise Davenne, Iranian Railways Deputy General Manager Hossein Ashoori and Jordan Hejaz Railways General Manager Zahi Khalil. . At the meeting, where the developments in the railway administrations of the countries in the region were evaluated, the RAME budget was also discussed. Establishment of a “Load Working Group” in order to identify the needs and develop cooperation between the countries in the region, the participation of RAME members in the working groups in the UIC on the impact of the climatic conditions on the railways, the activities carried out by the UIC RAME Office in the first half of 2022, the planned future period within the scope of RAME activities were discussed. It has also been decided that the next meeting will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates Railway Administration at the end of 2022.

Making the closing speech of the meeting as RAME President, he said, "We are ready to share TCDD's 166 years of knowledge and experience with our members for the development of brotherhood and friendship between countries and the development of railways." Metin Akbaş mentioned the importance of renewable energy sources for sustainable railway development. In his speech, Akbaş informed the board members about the works by stating that they also attach importance to activities such as environmentally friendly ecological bridge construction and pasture improvement during railway constructions.

On the other hand, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş made investigations on a part of the Hejaz Railways Project implemented by Sultan Abdulhamid Han, in Amman. Akbaş, who also visited the museum where the railway objects used in the Hejaz Railways are exhibited, signed the memoir. Akbaş visited the construction site, which is under construction by TIKA and planned as a museum and administrative building. Metin Akbaş was accompanied by Zahi A. Khalil, General Manager of Jordan Hejaz Railway.
