Last minute developments regarding open prison permits are followed closely. The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice decided that the convicts would be on leave due to the pandemic until May 31, the convicts in the open prison were allowed, and these permits were extended 2 times in 12-month periods last year. The Ministry of Justice, General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses has published an announcement regarding the open prison permits extended due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Open prison permits, which have been extended 12 times so far, will end on May 31. Considering the course of the epidemic, the decrease in the number of cases and the vaccination rate, the leave of convicts on COVID-19 leave was not extended due to the normalization process across the country in line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health Science Committee.

The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses of the Ministry of Justice did not take a new decision regarding the permits extended until May 31. Accordingly, convicts on leave due to the pandemic will return to prison as of May 31. The Ministry of Justice will also give convicts returning from their leave the right to choose the prisons they will enter to serve their remaining sentences. The convicts will be notified by notification that they must serve the remainder of their sentences.

To date, 19 prisoners have benefited from the Covid-200 permit.
