A green corridor was created by afforestation in the Xinjiang Autonomous Uyghur Region in northwest China. The corridor in question forms a barrier that will protect the Hotan-Ruoqiang railway line, which crosses the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, from desert sand.
As reported by Xinjiang Hotan-Ruoqiang Railway Co., Ltd, a total of 50 million square meters of vegetation has been created and 300 million saplings and trees have been planted along the 13 kilometers along the railway line's edge, especially in the part most exposed to the sandstorm.
On the other hand, a smart and water-efficient irrigation system was installed here. The company stated that the system in question can be controlled remotely via a mobile phone or a computer. Reforestation work began in December 2018, simultaneously with the construction of the Hotan-Ruoqiang railway line. This very important national railway project is an 825 kilometer long line connecting the city of Hotan in the province of Hotan with the settlement of Ruoqiang in the Mongolian Mongolian province of Bayingolin.
The railway line, which will be put into operation within the next month, will form the last section of the railway line surrounding the Taklamakan Desert and will contribute to the economic and social development of southern Xinjiang.
