The capacity of Baihetan, which is the world's largest hydroelectric project and whose construction works are still ongoing, has exceeded 10 billion kWh electricity generation. The power plant is of great importance in terms of its contribution to China's self-sufficiency in energy and achieving its green energy targets.

Located on the Jinsha river and at the confluence of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, the power plant consists of 16 separate sections developed independently of each other. The power plant, which is capable of producing 16 million kilowatts as a total built capacity, has reached a value of 2021 billion kWh since the first units of the power plant started operating in June 25,6.

The power plant will start operating at full capacity after the installation of the last two units, and its total on-board capacity will be 71 thousand 695 million kilowatts. This is equal to the sum of the capacity of three hydroelectric power plants built in the same area. Thus, energy transfer will be provided to the eastern regions, where the economic production centers are concentrated, and these regions will be relieved.

In addition, the renewable and clean energy to be obtained through the Baihetan hydroelectric power plant will contribute significantly to China's green economy and low carbon emission target. The 10 billion kWh electricity produced by the power plant will replace 3,06 million tons of standard coal energy and prevent 8,38 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. According to the statement of Lin Boqiang, Director of Xiamen University's Center for Economic and Energy Studies in China, the share of hydroelectric power plants, which met 2021 percent of China's total electricity production in 14,6, will likely increase to 17 percent this year.
