Marmara Municipalities Union and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Assoc. Dr. Tahir Büyükakın attended the 11th National Logistics and Supply Chain Congress organized in cooperation with Kocaeli University (KOÜ) and Logistics Association (LODER). KOÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Sadettin Hülagü, Karamürsel District Governor Osman Canbaba, Karamürsel Mayor İsmail Yıldırım, and Kocaeli University academics and students attended the congress, Mayor Büyükakın stated that not only logistics was discussed at the congress, but also many important issues closely related to each other.

“THE FUTURE SHOULD BE CORRECTLY PREDICTED AND TAKE THE RIGHT STEPS”

President Büyükakın emphasized that when planning logistics, it is necessary to look at where the industry and production are going, where agriculture, livestock and industry are heading, and how logistics needs are shaped in this sense, “Logistics planning is an area where you need to think constantly and see the future. In the field of logistics, they should correctly predict the future and take the right steps," he said.

“WE MADE A LOGISTICS MASTER PLAN FOR THE FIRST TIME AS A MUNICIPALITY”

Pointing out that 200 thousand units of trucks move daily in Kocaeli, Mayor Büyükakın said, “I can proudly say this here. Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, we are the first municipality to make the logistics master plan. No one has made a logistics plan before us. There is someone who has a transportation master plan before us. There were a couple of small transportation master plans. We completed it in a short time. But when we saw that a logistics master plan was needed, we made a logistics master plan for the first time as a municipality in Turkey. But having a logistics master plan does not mean that the job is over. It is necessary to constantly renew it and keep it up to date,'' he said.

“A LOGISTICS VILLAGE NEEDS TO BE BUILT IN THIS CITY”

Pointing out that one of the most important needs of Kocaeli is to build a logistics village, Mayor Büyükakın said: We shared with our Minister of Transport the idea that a logistics village should be built at a point close to the Northern Marmara Highway that extends to other lines, at a point that increases the port handling capacity. These studies are carried out on the one hand with the experts of the Ministry of Transport. A logistics village needs to be built in this city over 100 hectares.” After the speeches, a plaque was presented to President Büyükakın by Hülagü, the Rector of KOÜ.
