The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), working with all its might to carry Turkey to its 2023 goals, has accelerated its activities to fulfill its mission in the field of space. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced another important development in the field of space exploration after İMECE and TÜRKSAT 6A. Applications have started for a Turkish citizen to be sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in the 100th year of the Republic of Turkey. The next step in the space mission is to send a vehicle to the Moon.

For the first time, a Turkish citizen will receive the title of astronaut

The person who will be selected among those who meet the announced conditions will carry out Turkey's first manned space mission and will provide the opportunity to conduct experiments under the conditions of the ISS by fulfilling its science mission. For the first time, a Turkish citizen will receive the title of astronaut.

Applications will be made until June 23, 2022, 20:23, onuzuna.gov.tr. Within the scope of the project, two space traveler candidates will be determined among the applications made by Turkish citizens. One of the candidates who have successfully completed their astronaut training will be sent to the ISS with international cooperation to carry out this first national manned space mission, which will last approximately 10 days.

Among the required conditions; To be born after May 23, 1977, to have graduated from one of the faculties of engineering, science / basic sciences, education in the field of science and medicine, which provides at least 4 years of undergraduate education in higher education institutions, have a very good command of English - understand, speak and write stands out. In addition, the applicant must be between 149,5 and 190,5 centimeters tall and weigh between 43 and 110 kg.

Applicants who pass the first stage will be asked for additional information, documents, verification, tests, examinations and examinations so that they can move on to the next evaluation stages. Candidates to be called for an interview will be determined after a detailed evaluation process. The selected candidates will be employed within TUA or TÜBİTAK and will have a compulsory service obligation of ten years.

The Turkish Astronaut and Science Mission (TABM) Project is just one of the goals set within the scope of the National Space Program.

Two satellites will be launched in 2023

The countdown has begun for TÜRKSAT 6A, Turkey's first domestic and national communication satellite, developed locally under the leadership of TÜBİTAK UZAY, and İMECE, which has the first domestic and national sub-meter resolution camera developed within TÜBİTAK UZAY. In 2023, both satellites will be ready to launch and IMECE, which has started the countdown for launch, will take its place in orbit on January 15, 2023.

When the TÜRKSAT 6A project is completed, Turkey will be the 11th country with the ability and capacity to develop GEO satellites.

Spacecraft to be sent to the moon

A spacecraft will be sent to the Moon with the "Lunar Research Project" initiated within the scope of the National Space Program. With the Moon Research Program, Turkey will take its place among the few countries that have reached the Moon. Our spacecraft and systems, whose design, production, integration, testing and operations will be developed nationally at TÜBİTAK UZAY, will have a deep space history. Thus, the Turkish space industry will gain strength in global competition.

TÜBİTAK UZAY, the first and only institution with a space history

The space journey, which started with the BİLSAT Satellite launched by TÜBİTAK UZAY in 2003, continues successfully. RASAT, Turkey's first domestic and national earth observation satellite, was launched on 17 August 2011 and the GÖKTÜRK-2 Satellite, which was designed and produced to meet the earth observation needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and public institutions/organizations, was launched into space on 18 December 2012 and continues its mission in space successfully. Images taken with RASAT are shared free of charge on Turkey's first national satellite image portal GEZGİN (gezgin.gov.tr).

Thanks to the studies and achievements of TÜBİTAK UZAY, the first and only institution that has achieved the history of space and thus reached the highest Technology Readiness Level for systems, subsystems and equipment in our country, Turkey has gained the ability to design and manufacture observation satellites completely domestically and nationally, and also communication satellites. It has the infrastructure, knowledge and trained human resources to realize its goal of producing domestically with national means.

The general conditions to be sought in candidates who will be space travelers are as follows:

*Being a citizen of the Republic of Turkey,

*Being born after May 23, 1977,

* Being not prohibited from public rights,

*To have completed one of the faculties of Education and Medicine in the fields of Engineering, Science / Basic Sciences, Natural Sciences, which provide at least 4 years of undergraduate education in Higher Education Institutions,

* Have a very good command of English.

*Height: 149,5-190,5 centimeters,

*Weight: 43-110 kilograms.

Some of the general health criteria to be considered in the selection of candidates are as follows:

*To have 100 percent visual acuity in both eyes naturally or after correction with glasses/contact lenses,

* Not having any of the color vision disorders,

* Not using a prosthesis and not having a platinum/screw in the body,

*Having normal range of motion and functionality for all joints,

*Blood pressure / blood pressure below 155/95, not have a chronic heart and vascular system disease,

Have not experienced panic disorder, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, suicidal ideation, insomnia or other severe personality disorders,

* Not having experienced alcohol, drug/stimulant or drug addiction,

* No fear of darkness, height, speed, accident, crowd, suffocation/suffocation, clutter, loneliness/isolation, confined/confined space,

*Having not experienced nervous system disorders such as epilepsy, tremor, MS (multiple sclerosis), stroke (paralysis).

How will the application process work?

Candidates will register to the application system from the address ofuzuna.gov.tr ​​in order to apply for the post. Applications will not be accepted except for applications made through the system. Applications can be made until 23:2022 on 20 June 23 at the latest. Candidates will be evaluated according to the statements and documents they have entered into the Application System during their application. In case of missing or misleading information in any of the entered information and documents, the application will be deemed invalid.

Applicants who pass the first stage will be asked for additional information, documents, verification, tests, examinations and examinations so that they can move on to the next evaluation stages. Candidates to be called for an interview will be determined after a detailed evaluation process. Candidates who are eliminated in the comprehensive evaluation processes to be applied before or after the interview will not be able to claim any rights.
