The Governorship of Istanbul made a statement regarding the foreigners residing in the province.
In the statement, as of today (04.05.2022), 1.305.307 foreigners are legally residing in our province.
These foreigners;
a) 542.045 Syrians under temporary protection,
b) 763.262 of them are regular immigrants who have entered our country legally and obtained a residence permit.
However, our struggle against irregular immigrants who do not have the legal right to stay in our province continues with the cooperation of all our institutions.
Last year, 71.959 irregular migrants were prosecuted by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Migration Management. While 23.072 of these people were deported from Istanbul, 39.525 were sent to removal centers in other provinces for deportation procedures.
Between 1 January – 3 May 2022; Action was taken against a total of 11.936 irregular immigrants (2.853 foreigners were legally prosecuted), 25.644 of whom were from Afghanistan and 1.933 from Pakistan. While 8.773 of these foreigners were deported from Istanbul to their countries, 12.684 were sent to removal centers in other provinces for deportation procedures.
On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, deportation procedures for 240 irregular immigrants identified by our law enforcement officers began, and deportation planning was made for 280 foreign nationals from Afghanistan, whose procedures were completed.
Efforts to detect and deport irregular migrants continue effectively.
Every foreign national in our city is not an asylum seeker or refugee, but comes to our country as a tourist and then returns to their country. Especially with the arrival of the summer season, there is an intense tourist inflow to see the historical, cultural and natural beauties of our city and to take a vacation.
The number of tourists who came to our city by sea and airway last March increased by 112% compared to last year and reached 1.156.400, and in the first quarter of this year, it reached 3.
Among the foreigners who visit Istanbul the most, which is one of the cities hosting the most tourists in our country, are Iran with 10,09%, Germany with 7,97% and Russian Federation citizens with 7,82%.
