In the ASELSAN 2021 Annual Report, there is information that the integration of the CATS Electro Optic system to Bayraktar TB2 and ANKA-S SİHAs has been completed. The development and qualification steps of the Sensor System were successfully completed with the operational flight/fire tests conducted with the participation of the Force Commands. Thus, the embargo imposed on our country in the field of Electro Optics was neutralized.
The integration of the system to the TB-2 and ANKA-S Platforms has been completed, the mass production phase has been completed, and 31 systems have been delivered and approximately 1.000 ammunition fired. In the process, ASELSAN's contribution to UAV projects will continue to grow by integrating CATS into AKINCI TİHA.
In 2021, mass production activities continued within the scope of the DRAGONEYE Project. A total of over 1000 deliveries were made within the scope of signed contracts for the needs of the Land Forces Command, the Gendarmerie General Command and the General Directorate of Security. The overseas deliveries of the system also continue without slowing down.
CATS
CATS developed by ASELSAN; UAV is a high-performance electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system for fixed-wing or rotary-wing aerial platforms, including helicopters and aircraft.
Canada announced that it had indefinitely extended the arms embargo, which was put into effect by Turkey on October 9, 2019, due to the "Operation Peace Spring" to prevent the formation of a terror corridor in Syria, in April 2020. In June 2020, after various diplomatic initiatives, the embargo on electro-optical systems used in UAVs was lifted.
However, after the Bayraktar TB2s were used by Azerbaijan to liberate the occupied territories against Armenia, Canada decided to embargo again. After the embargo was imposed on the MX-2D system used in Canadian Wescam's ANKA and Bayraktar TB15s, it was announced that domestic CATS cameras would begin mass production.
CATS Integration to TB2 AND ANKA-S SİHAs
The CATS system is actively used in S/UAVs. Bayraktar TB2 SİHA had a successful shot with laser targeting made by CATS, the electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting system developed by ASELSAN. President of Turkish Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir announced on his Twitter account in February 2022 that the Bayraktar TB2 S/UAV deliveries were integrated into the Land Forces Command.
It was announced by ASELSAN that it carried out an 11-hour flight test with the CATS Electro-Optical Sensor System integrated into the ANKA-S unmanned aerial vehicle and that it was at a level to perform operational activities in terms of the performance of CATS. With the improvements made in the stabilization system, a better dynamically stabilization performance has been achieved against both platform-related disturbances and environmental disturbances (fluid-induced vibrations and the like).
Some improvements were also made in the “Laser Marking Module” in CATS. Thanks to these improvements, CATS has achieved the performance that can successfully mark a target from 20 km away. This development enables unmanned systems to mark both the ammunition they carry (MAM-T, etc.) and the ammunition that can be fired from other platforms (TRLG-230, TRLG-122, TEBER, etc.) from much longer distances with CATS.
