The international photography exhibition 'Smile Philippines', organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Philippines Consulate General in Istanbul, was opened to the public at Tayyare Cultural Center.

The international photography exhibition named 'Smile Philippines', which includes original photographs from the collection of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, was opened by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality at Tayyare Cultural Center. 15 works of Filipino photographers describing the daily life of the Philippines were presented to the people of Bursa. To the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which will remain open until Sunday, April 17; Philippines Ambassador to Ankara Maria Elena Algabre, Philippines Consul General to Istanbul Arvin de Leon, Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Halide Serpil Şahin and Head of Culture and Social Affairs Department Hüseyin Buran.

Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Halide Serpil Şahin said that they are very pleased to present the international photography exhibition named Smile Philippines to the public in Bursa. Stating that Bursa, which received immigrants from a wide geography from the Balkans to the Caucasus, also hosts guests from many parts of the world, Şahin said, “Bursa is a mosaic of Turkey. It is an exemplary city where people from all walks of life can live together in peace. Bursa is the flower garden where many cultures meet. We were happy to host a painting exhibition about the Philippines in such a beautiful city. I invite all Bursa residents to visit the exhibition.”

Arvin de Leon, Consul General of the Philippines in Istanbul, thanked the Metropolitan Municipality, which contributed to the opening of the photography exhibition in Bursa. Pointing out that it is meaningful to open the exhibition in Bursa, the second city with the highest number of Filipinos residing in Turkey, Leon stated that they want to convey the culture of his country to the Turks in the best possible way. Explaining that the Philippines, which has been under the influence of many governments for hundreds of years, especially America and Spain, can be set an example for multicultural life, Leon said, “With the photography exhibition, we wanted to both introduce our country and tell the common points between Turkey and the Philippines. We offer perspective on our traditions, values, beliefs, current way of life. We invite the people of Bursa to visit the exhibition first and then to our country. Happy Ramadan to the Turkish people," he said.

After the speeches, the exhibition was opened to visitors with a ribbon cutting. Deputy Chairman Halide Serpil Şahin presented a Green Tomb miniature to the guests in memory of the day.
