Kuveyt Türk Wins the 'Zero Waste Certificate'

Kuveyt Türk, Turkey's leading participation finance institution, fulfilled all the criteria in the Zero Waste Regulation of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and received a 'Zero Waste Certificate' for its headquarters and banking base buildings.

Standing out with its innovative and sustainable products and services, Kuveyt Türk became the first participation financial institution to receive a Zero Waste Certificate as a result of the inspections carried out by the Provincial Directorates of Environment and Urbanization under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Kuveyt Türk was awarded the zero waste certificate by fulfilling all the necessary criteria for Zero Waste Certificate and successfully completing zero waste audits at both the Headquarters in Istanbul and the Kuveyt Türk Banking and Life Base in Kocaeli. In order to obtain the zero waste certificate, Kuveyt Türk collected the wastes in the institution by separating them at the source, then created temporary storage areas for the wastes and sent the wastes to the disposal company.

“We took important actions in a short time within the scope of the Zero Waste Project”

Kuveyt Türk General Manager Ufuk Uyan said, “We carry out important studies from a sustainability perspective in many different areas, from waste management to green products and services, from environmental and social credit evaluation systems to savings plans, from integrated corporate social responsibility projects to sustainable finance. While increasing our financing support for sustainable projects in the field of renewable energy, we are fulfilling our duties regarding the diversification of financial products and services, especially sukuk, and the development of the sustainable finance ecosystem in our country, with the vision of sustainability. With our award-winning 'Paperless Branch Banking' project, we save thousands of trees every year, and we strive to fulfill our duty towards the environment with our afforestation efforts we carry out together with our employees and their families. In addition to all these works we have carried out, we have taken important actions within the scope of the Zero Waste Project in recent years. We aimed to take all actions for more efficient use of resources, prevention of waste, prevention or minimization of waste generation, and in case of occurrence of waste, separating and recycling it at the source. In a short time, we fulfilled all the criteria in the Zero Waste Regulation of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and we were entitled to receive the Zero Waste Certificate for both our headquarters and our banking and living base building. We are happy to be a pioneer in the field of participation finance by breaking new ground in this regard. We will continue to develop new projects in the field of both environmental sustainability and financial sustainability and fully fulfill our responsibilities towards the environment.”

With the 'Paperless Branch Banking Project', it saves money and makes trees

Acting with the understanding of "We grow with our values", Kuveyt Türk, within the scope of the Paperless Branch Banking Project, reduces the use of paper in financial processes, while planting trees in nature with the savings it has achieved. With the approach of “Our paper savings turn into trees”, Kuveyt Türk brings 7-8 year old trees together with the soil instead of saplings and does all kinds of maintenance of the trees. Kuveyt Türk also cooperates with non-governmental organizations to plant saplings on behalf of its employees and their families. Recently, with the participation of the employees and their families, the first saplings were planted in Gebze, Kocaeli. When the project is completed, 10 thousand pine saplings in Kocaeli and 7 thousand 174 pistachio seedlings distributed to farmers in Kilis will meet with the soil.

Turkey's and the world's first sustainable subordinated sukuk issuance

Making the first sukuk transaction in Turkey and in Continental Europe in 2010, Kuveyt Türk became the first financial institution in Turkey and in the world to issue “Global Sustainable Tier 2 Subordinated Sukuk” in line with the principles of participation finance. The source obtained from sustainable sukuk is used in green and social project financing, especially in renewable energy financing.

Financing support for green energy continues

Kuveyt Türk also continues to provide financial support to investments in solar power plants in the field of renewable energy resources in order to meet the energy needs of future generations, reduce the damage to the environment and contribute to sustainability. 7 megawatts of installed solar power plants, of which 385 megawatts are installed in Turkey, are covered by 523 projects financed by Kuveyt Türk.
