Good news reached Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which applied for the European Award on January 15th. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe announced that, along with İzmir, five European cities: Bamberg and Ingolstadt from Germany, Palanga from Lithuania, Bolesławiec from Poland and Ternopil from Ukraine have been shortlisted for the 2022 European Prize. The city that wins the award will be determined at the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 26 April.

İzmir received the Flag of Honor and Plaque of Honor
The European Prize, given since 1955, is defined as the highest level award that not only provides the most important tool for the development of relations between all citizens of Europe, but also promotes European ideals. The international visibility of the award-winning cities and their communication with other municipalities are increasing.
The European Prize is awarded to one or two municipalities each year from among the applicants who have previously won the Flag of Honor and the Plaque of Honor. İzmir, which was deemed worthy of the "Flag of Honor" in 1970 and the "Plaque of Honor" in 2014, applied for the European Award on January 15, 2022, thanks to its membership in international organizations, collaborations with cities abroad, project partnerships and international activities.
