Organized for the first time, the Izmir International Portrait Cartoon Festival ended with a gala dinner. As part of the festival, the Porte Caricature Exhibition, consisting of the works of 7 artists from 12 countries, met with art lovers at Alsancak Vasıf Çınar Square.

Speaking at the gala, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council Member Atty. Nilay Kökkılınç said, “As İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, the art of caricature is not only one of the branches of art that we include most in our cultural and artistic activities, but it is also a branch that we use in the promotions of our local services and celebrations of our special days. Social problems, which vary from place to place and from country to country, are of course universal. The most effective way of conveying social messages to the masses through humor is the art of caricature, which includes humor. It makes us smile but also makes us think. I would like to thank our valuable artists who participated in the Izmir International Portrait Cartoon Festival, which we organized for the first time this year, and hope to be together again next year.” said.

After his speech, Kökkılınç presented plaques to the artists. The artists are the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Tunç Soyer, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Art Department Head Kadir Efe Oruç and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Art Branch Manager Arzu Ütaş presented the cartoons they made.

Free cartoons from famous artists

Curated by the artist Menekşe Çam, the Portrait Caricature Exhibition consisting of the works of 7 artists from 12 countries met with art lovers at Alsancak Vasıf Çınar Square. While thousands of free portrait cartoons were drawn in the activity areas set up at three different points of the city, a memorial wall consisting of entertaining drawings of artists was created at Konak Metro station.
