Istanbul Research Institute continues to support researchers who carry out pioneering studies on Istanbul with new approaches and unpublished documents with its scholarship program. The deadline for applications for the 2022-2023 period of scholarships that provide financial support in four different categories is July 17.

Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Istanbul Research Institute continues to provide scholarship support to researchers working on the Byzantine, Ottoman, Atatürk and Republic studies departments and the "Istanbul and Music" Research Program (IMAP). The Institute awaits applications in the categories of "Postdoctoral Research and Writing", "Research and Writing for Doctoral Candidates", "Travel" and "Academic Activity" in the period of 2022-2023. With the new approach and unpublished documents, applications can be submitted to the program until July 17, 2022, where the researches that will contribute to Istanbul studies are evaluated.

Aiming at a wide audience ranging from graduate students to researchers who have completed their doctorate, the scholarships are given in 4 different categories. The Post-Doctoral Research and Writing Scholarship provides 1 thousand TL for the studies of 40 researcher who completed his/her doctorate at most five years ago, and 1 thousand TL for the field or archive studies required for 30 doctoral candidate's doctoral thesis. Travel Scholarships, which are given to support archive or field work, and Academic Activity Scholarships, which are given to present papers or organize panels in conferences, symposiums, workshops abroad, provide 5 thousand TL of support to 5 researchers from both categories.

A fresh look at Istanbul studies

Last year, original research that focused on Istanbul under different topics such as architectural culture, urban infrastructure, epidemics and health system, religious beliefs, ideological movements and music, from the Byzantine period to the present, was supported by IAE scholarships. “Constantinople and 'Palaiologos' by Jessica Varllona at the University of Birmingham. RönesansI' (1261-1453): Architecture, Ideology and Patronage", was awarded a Post-Doctoral Research and Writing Scholarship for her research, while Yasemin Akçagüner received her Ph.D. Received the Research and Writing Scholarship for its Candidates.

Researchers who are eligible to participate in the Istanbul Research Institute scholarship program have the opportunity to share their work with a wider audience with the Scholarship Talks organized by the Institute.
