Istanbul Meets with 30 New Metrobuses

“We have stated that we will not leave the risk of Istanbul being governed by a single signature and being governed by a single understanding based on a fairness. The scene you see here today is an example of how we expressed that we will not leave this process to this mercy. Is it enough? not enough. If they don't block us or block some of the resources we've found, we'll get it done faster. It didn't happen, it will change in the election next year, then we'll deal with it. IMM President said, "Everything will be better in a year." Ekrem İmamoğlubrought 160 of the 30 new metrobuses purchased by İBB with its own resources to Istanbulites. Having obtained a foreign loan of 300 million Euros to purchase 90 vehicles to renew its Metrobus fleet, İBB institution IETT took action to purchase buses with its own resources, when the Presidency did not approve. As a result of the tender held on August 5, 2021 and broadcast live, an agreement was reached with 21 different local companies for the purchase of 100 buses with a length of 25 meters and 60 buses with a length of 2 meters.

Istanbul Meets New Metrobus

Istanbul has received 160 of the 30 new metrobuses purchased by İBB with its own resources. The opening ceremony of 30 new metrobuses, at Edirnekapı Metrobus Garage, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğluIt was held with the participation of Pointing out that Istanbul's need for buses is essential, İmamoğlu underlined that the mileage and average age of the vehicles in the fleet are quite high. Emphasizing that it is obligatory to renew the city's bus fleet in this sense, İmamoğlu said, “About 2 years ago, we received an authorization from the Parliament for the purchase of 300 buses, with a budget of 90 million Euros, which we also prepared, and we took this decision in Ankara. We sent it to institutions. However, our Presidency did not include this process in the investment plan for either 1,5 or 2021 regarding this decision, which was pending for approval for 2022 years, and did not include this proposal in the investment plan.

“WE FOUND THE IMM Vault Almost EMPTY”

"We have always warned Istanbul from a point of view like this," said İmamoğlu, and said, "We will not leave the risk of Istanbul being governed with a single signature, the risk of being governed with a single understanding, based on mercy, and in this direction, despite all the difficulties, despite the obstacles, we will not find a solution. We have stated that we will find it, that we are determined in this regard, that Istanbul has the ability to generate resources despite everything.” Sharing the information that they found the İBB safe almost empty when they took office in June 2019, İmamoğlu said:

“June is the last day of 2019. On the first day of July, the Treasury share is deposited in the safe. There is no money in the safe. Why? They deposit the Treasury share into the safe 15 days before the date. A resource of more than 1 billion then; It was around 1 billion 100 million liras. It is not enough; Due to the misdemeanor, there is a deposit of about 5 million from the Ministry of Finance. There is a money of around 1 billion 600 million liras. Let alone the money to pay the salary, there isn't even a one-twentieth amount of money in the safe. There is a money of 20-1 million liras. They leave this money in the big İBB, the other is transferred to the institution they want, distributed to the right and left, within 6-7 days, and we come to our duty. 10 million liras; The money in the big İBB's safe.”

“IF THEY DON'T ESTABLISH A SET, WE WILL MAKE IT FASTER”

Noting that they found the safe empty, they were also prevented from taking loans from state banks by instruction, adding, "Even under these conditions, we have been running all the wheels of the municipality from the very first day, as well as the wheels of many institutions and organizations that have been wasted and unfortunately become inoperable. We started spinning and working again. In that respect, the scene you see here today is an example of how we expressed that we will not leave this process to this mercy. Is it enough? not enough. We need. If they don't block us or block some of the resources we've found, we'll get it done faster. It didn't happen, it will change in the election next year, then we'll deal with it. After a year, everything will be better," he said.

“IETT DOESN'T HAVE AN INCREASING FAILURE RATE”

Noting that there are some negativities due to the age of IETT vehicles, İmamoğlu said, "There are some deteriorations and malfunctions. With our rejuvenating fleet, we will reduce this even more. Speaking of malfunctions, I would like to mention this: Vehicles have a failure rate. In other words, there is no such thing as zero failure anywhere in the world. Neither do we. We also have a failure rate in our vehicles. And the course of this rate over the years is systematically and mathematically present in the data of IETT. In other words, although there are increases due to some very obsolete fleets that exist these days, IETT does not have an increasing failure rate retrospectively. I would like to express that, from time to time, even if it increases slightly, it becomes more and less malfunctioning. But there is a difference. There is a public perception of the system that the dissident mind has built on cultural propaganda and defamation without giving up, at the cost of deciphering this business and refuting a 150-year-old institution from there, at the expense of tarnishing its name. Otherwise, these errors are always present. It was there 10 years ago, it was there 5 years ago, and it exists today.”

“WE HAVE MORE WAYS”

Expressing that they know that the 30 new buses they put into service today will not meet the needs, İmamoğlu said, “I would like to underline that we have a long way to go in terms of needs compared to such a large fleet. Our aim; To be able to provide a fast, safe and comfortable service in Istanbul, in this beautiful ancient city, befitting the beautiful people of this city. Of course, in this period when fuel prices have increased tremendously, the fact that our new vehicles will have lower unit fuel consumption per passenger than our current vehicles and will be more economical will be another advantage. Unfortunately, fuel prices and raw material prices are in a very serious increase. In addition, it is the exchange rate increases in our country that bends us even more. With the exchange rate increases, the multiplier effect of this increases even more. If we sit at the table this year with the numbers we talked about last year, if we start talking about buses, we will be talking about completely different numbers. Neither the manufacturer companies nor the İBB is responsible for this. This is because of the people who run the economy,” he said.

“SERVICE TO THE CITIZEN IS OVER EVERYTHING”

Emphasizing that IMM and all the institutions of Istanbul are reputable, İmamoğlu said:

“Service to the people comes before everything else, service to our citizens. Political parties, political identities are a tool for service, never an end. As a member of the Republican People's Party of this mind and philosophy, I will continue to be an identity that does not allow those who want to take a step for the sake of individual arrogance and individual interest in any political environment. Even if no one tries to prevent our work, power, and service to the public, they will not be successful. Because I know that the people of Istanbul are totally behind us and are with us when we serve. With these feelings, I wish our new metrobuses to be beneficial for our city and our people.”

TENDER AND PURCHASE PROCESS

The average age of 670 vehicles working on the metrobus line of IETT, one of the affiliates of IMM, increased to 10. When the Presidency did not approve the 300 million Euro foreign loan for months to buy 90 vehicles to renew the metrobuses, which caused intense complaints, IETT took action to buy buses with its own resources. As a result of the tender held on August 5, 2021 and broadcast live, the offer of Otokar company for 21 buses with a length of 100 meters and the offers of Akia company for 25 buses with a length of 60 meters were approved. The 21-meter-long Otokar buses to be purchased will have a capacity of 200 passengers. The vehicles currently used are 18,5 meters and 185 passengers can travel at the same time. 25 Akia buses with a length of 60 meters have a capacity of 280 passengers. Currently used buses are 26 meters but can carry 225 passengers. The deliveries of the buses, 15 percent of which were purchased in cash and the rest with a maturity of 72 months, started with the introduction of 30 new vehicles.
