“Our beautiful Qur'an shows that Islam; it shows the highest compatibility with democracy, discussion and consultation culture, common mind. The Surah Shura, in which the phrase 'their affairs are with shura', is a valuable trace and indicator that shows the importance of this subject in the Qur'an so much that the sura can be named. Today, one of the issues that we need the most as a nation, perhaps the world, and humanity, and that we have unfortunately lost, is this culture and understanding of consultation, discussion, consultation, thinking together, and producing a common mind. We should not be polarized, we should unite and work together in harmony for a better future. Mahir Polat, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, also said in his speech, “Our world is going through very difficult conditions. Humanity is going through very difficult times. More than ever, we need shelter in the unifying and healing climate of the month of Ramadan in these difficult times, where we are being tested by poverty, hunger, people's enmity towards each other, and we have suffered all kinds of wounds in the name of humanity. Emphasizing that Istanbul is a city that embraces all monotheistic religions with the same respect, Polat said, “The historical districts of this city, its squares that bring together all segments of society, its peaceful places of worship, the cultural riches of Istanbul that have been filtered through the centuries, and the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan from iftar to sahur. more beautiful, more festive, more joyful these days. It is really a great privilege for us Istanbulites to breathe in this city surrounded by such a heritage.”
After the prayers and speeches, Zihni Göktay, the doyen of Turkish theater, gave a stage performance about the old Ramadans.
