A Library Campaign for Every Neighborhood Continues

People of Izmir can support the campaign by bringing new or second-hand books to book delivery points throughout the city. Visitors who follow the call of President Soyer to "bring me books, not flowers" continue to bring books to be donated to the campaign.

The “A Library for Every Neighborhood” campaign has left two weeks behind. However, encyclopedias are not accepted within the scope of the campaign. The donors are requested to put their unworn, undamaged and readable books in a box on which "A Library for Every Neighborhood" is written and leave them at the book delivery points. The books are sorted by the teams of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Libraries Branch Office and are prepared to be sent to the headman's libraries. The target is to establish 50 libraries for the mukhtars who make demands in the first place.

Support for solidarity from Fatih Gürbüz

President Soyer's call to his visitors, “Please bring me a book for our campaign instead of flowers and gifts” continues to be answered. Many visitors, including Foça Mayor Fatih Gürbüz, brought books to Mayor Soyer to support the campaign. Spanish Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Héctor Castañeda, Izmir City Council management and Izmir Private Turkish College men's basketball team were among the visitors who brought books to the campaign last week, following the call of President Soyer. His family, on the other hand, joined in solidarity with the books of Münci Kapani, an academician and writer from Izmir, whom we lost in 1993.

Training for mukhtars from the Directorate of Libraries

İZBETON in the first place Bayraklı, Bornova, Buca, Çiğli, Güzelbahçe, Gaziemir, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka, Kemalpaşa, Konak and Narlıdere will establish libraries in the headmen. The books collected within the scope of the campaign will be sorted, cleaned and sent to the headman's libraries established by İZBETON by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Libraries Directorate. The Libraries Directorate will provide training to mukhtars on the basics of book classification, arrangement, lending and library management.

İZBETON is working in mukhtars

Within the scope of the "A Library for Every Neighborhood" project, the mukhtars of Izmir had been informed about the project. Headmen, who wanted to benefit from the project, conveyed their library requests to İZBETON. İZBETON teams examined the mukhtars, taking into account criteria such as the suitability of the area where the library will be built, the location of the headman's office in the neighborhood, and whether it can serve the whole neighborhood. Work was started in the appropriate mukhtars.
