“Holiday for us”

President Soyer, who started his words by saying, “It is a feast day for us,” said, “We are laying the foundations of 584 residences and 27 workplaces in the third phase of the Örnekköy Urban Transformation project. We will have implemented a living area of 252 thousand 76 square meters within the scope of the third stage, with a cost of 741 million liras. Again, today, we have started the fourth phase works on an area of 167 thousand 380 square meters, covering 27 residences and 54 workplaces, with a cost of 635 million liras. In short, we will have brought 419 new residences and 3 workplaces to İzmir with our 4rd and 964th stages with a total cost of 54 million liras.

“The sun is not plastered with mud”

Mayor Soyer stated that he watched the comments about the urban transformation works of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality with amazement and said, “Those who make these criticisms either do not live in Izmir or do not speak the same language as us or do not want the truth to be seen or heard. But the sun is not plastered with mud. Our Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Urban Transformation Department and our municipal company İZBETON opened a brand new page in our city's urban transformation adventure. Look at this clean page in three years, we started the transformation in 6 regions: Gaziemir, Ege Mahallesi, Uzundere, Ballıkuyu, Çiğli Güzeltepe and Örnekköy, and we are continuing. The construction of 3 thousand 958 independent units is continuing, and we have made 2 thousand 500 independent units ready for the construction tender. As of March, we signed four different contracts in a short period of three months. There are thousands more behind, we will continue to do those thousands again with cooperation," he said.

“We produce solutions without hiding behind excuses”

Emphasizing that they did all of this under difficult economic conditions where the construction industry was out of breath, President Soyer continued his words as follows: “In a period when contractors cannot even submit bids, we produce new and permanent solutions that have never been implemented before, without hiding behind excuses. We establish partnerships with our business world and work with building cooperatives for urban transformation. In fact, we are now starting to use the cooperative model we use in agricultural development, and the cooperative model we use in transportation with the İZTAŞIT application, for urban transformation. Last week, our İZBAN partner TCDD made a statement. We are waiting for the Katip Çelebi University stop, which is 25 kilometers away, to deliver the place for the Lale Mahallesi İZBAN stop. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which produces words instead of service, said, "It is trying to create a perception. There is exactly 25 kilometers in between. Let alone that there is no technical connection between the two issues, can a respected institution of the Republic of Turkey, our legal partner, use such a style for the Metropolitan Municipality of this city? Or why does he use such a style? It is impossible to understand.”

"Shame on you"

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Urban Transformation Department managers, İZBETON managers and Business People Gaziemir were charged with the charges of "establishing an organized crime organization for profit, operating without a tender and opposition to the tender law, negligence of duty, abuse of office, establishing an unlawful transaction and corruption". Stating that he had filed a criminal complaint with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the managers of the Building Cooperative, Mayor Soyer said, "Shame on you... You are producing extraordinary solutions in this crisis environment and you are trying to make your citizens happy, but someone does not care about the damage they will cause to this city in order to harm others politically and personally. We continue on our way without wasting any time with them. We are establishing earthquake resistant, brand new and green neighborhoods of our city, under the guarantor of our municipality, without sacrificing anyone's rights for rent, without bringing our citizens and contractors against each other. After this time, neither the economic crisis, the increasing costs nor those who try to cast a shadow on these selfless efforts can stop us. Transformation has started in Izmir. This transformation will continue to grow with the understanding of appropriate and fair transformation. And I hope that this transformation will be the beginning of a national transformation," he said.

“We see the CHP's four-legged strategy here”

CHP General Secretary Selin Sayek Böke stated that hope for the new era is blooming in Turkey and said, “That hope is the order that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will bring to life in a democratic way with the Nation Alliance tomorrow. CHP describes a four-pronged strategy that will overcome today's darkness and implements it in their municipalities. We call a strong parliamentary system, the rule of law. Parliamentary democracy is an understanding that consults, compromises and hears the voice of the people. Today, the understanding that surrenders the right to the city, reconciles with the citizens, and does business with their hearts, makes Örnekköy. We call it a productive understanding that reassures its people, not for rent. As we see here, the way is progressed together with the cooperatives. We call it a strong social state. We present an understanding in which the right is guaranteed and the right to shelter. We call it sustainability. We are laying the foundation of the four-legged strategy together, not by dividing, but by saying that we will increase the well-being of everyone in their place. We will expand this enlightenment with our citizens who will live here in peace tomorrow.”

“The government is uncomfortable with the work of our mayors”

CHP Deputy Chairman Oğuz Kaan Salıcı said, “We said before the March 31 elections, vote for the CHP candidates, when you get them elected, they will serve the people and they will make the CHP's face turn white. The government has been so disturbed by the work of our mayors that it is constantly trying to cause problems. But despite all this, our mayors continue to serve.”

Referring to the economic crisis, Oğuz Kaan Salıcı said, “We have been in crisis for almost four years. The price of building materials has increased. Inflation, natural gas, electricity, everything is known. In an environment where the government cannot invest, more than 400 million TL is invested today. At a time when the government cannot move, our municipalities are doing a brand new job. The transformation that started here will continue in Ankara tomorrow. This is their fear. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality receives a loan of 344 million dollars. But this loan has to be approved. Do they approve? They don't approve. The state borrowed with 8.65 percent in dollar terms. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality borrowed less than 1 percent. It will be a payment spread over 30 years. But the loan is not approved,” he said.

“We thank Soyer for paving the way for the process”

Karşıyaka Mayor Cemil Tugay, on the other hand, said, “Izmir is left alone, Izmir cannot get its rights, Izmir has to take care of itself. At a time when urban transformation was blocked, business people took the initiative with a cooperative structure. Our Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, who paved the way for this Tunç SoyerWe thank you,” he said.

“We put our hearts and minds under the stone”

Cihangir Lübiç, President of SS İş Dünyası Housing Building Cooperative, who spoke about their participation in urban transformation works in İzmir, said, “We are beautifying İzmir with urban transformation. Together with other cooperatives, we make a great contribution to the urban transformation of İzmir. We put our hearts and minds under the stone, not our hands. This is how it will go. Minister Tunç Soyer He has never lost his support, I thank him”.

“300 Izmirians appeared like 520 Spartans”

Senol Arslanoğlu, President of SS Business People's Ornekköy Housing Building Cooperative, said that Izmir exhibits examples of solidarity in extraordinary times and said: "Everyone who breathes the air of Izmir joins the solidarity wherever necessary. They said that the rate demanded by citizens and contractors in urban transformation does not match. Everyone is right, the business remained for years. Then Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and İZBETON stepped in and put their hands under the stone. Has anyone taken the stone for 10 years? Did not have. Now we solve it with solidarity. The owner of the cooperative does not make a profit, he only becomes a partner. The more houses there are, the more partners he has. We took a step forward, the people of Izmir trusted us. This business has a total of 520 partners. Like 300 Spartans, 520 Izmirians appeared.”

The latest situation in Örnekköy

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has delivered 130 residences and 13 workplaces to their beneficiaries within the scope of the first phase in the Ornekköy Urban Transformation Area, continues the construction of the second phase, which includes 170 residences and 20 workplaces. In order to start the construction works of the third phase, on 29 December 2020, the Metropolitan subsidiary İZBETON A.Ş. Metropolitan, which signed a protocol with the Metropolitan Municipality, completed the evacuation and demolition of buildings and infrastructure works in the region.
