In the second session of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council in April, the 2021 Activity Report of the ESHOT General Directorate was also evaluated. The 2021 activities of ESHOT, which continues and develops its basic services despite the economic difficulties throughout the country and especially the high increases in fuel costs, were approved by a majority of votes.

The 2021 Activity Report of the ESHOT General Directorate was also evaluated at the second session of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council held in April last night. In the report, which was accepted by voting, it was emphasized that the institution was working towards the targets set in its Strategic Plan covering the period of 2020-2024, it was stated that the savings measures published by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality were complied with, and that public resources were used effectively, efficiently and economically in accordance with the principles of financial transparency.

The ongoing coronavirus epidemic since March 2019, the boarding and revenue losses caused by it, the increasingly heavy economic picture, the instability in exchange rates, inflation and most importantly the recent fuel hikes; It was noted that although it increased all costs from diesel to spare parts, service and maintenance needs to personnel more than twice, ESHOT successfully performed its basic services. It was also noted that ESHOT, which purchased a total of 2019 domestic buses, 2020 of which were at once, in 364 and 435, added 2021 more midibuses to its fleet in 22, reducing the average age of the fleet to 5,4. It was also stated that 23 new lines were put into service last year.

Free and discounted service

In addition to contributing to the 2019 percent discounted Public Vehicle service implemented by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality since April 50; for more than two years, healthcare workers have been transported free of charge; During the peak period of the pandemic, free shuttle service was provided on 13 lines specially planned for healthcare professionals; law enforcement officers, veterans, relatives of martyrs, the disabled and their companions and citizens over the age of 65 are transported free of charge, students, teachers and 60-year-olds are provided with discounted services; It was reminded that boarding is free or 50 percent discounted in all tariffs with the decisions of the Metropolitan Council on holidays and some special days.

Fuel savings of 114 million TL

It was stated that thanks to the newly purchased buses, approximately 10 percent (about 6 million liters) of fuel was saved, and in the light of current data, the cost of savings exceeded 114 million TL. As a result of the periodic renewal and maintenance activities carried out within the scope of workshop activities, the failure rate was reduced by 1,6 percent; It was noted that as of March 2022, a total of 426 buses were renewed as if they were ex-factory and offered to the service of the people of Izmir.

After the speeches, the 2021 Annual Report of the ESHOT General Directorate was approved by a majority of votes. The report included 71 performance indicators determined for five purposes. It was recorded that 11 of them were above 100 percent and 34 of them were 100 percent. It was stated that other activities took place at rates ranging from 99 to 59 percent due to the loss of income due to the pandemic, instability in exchange rates, and savings measures. Including the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the expenditure budget of 2021 is 1 billion 945 million 725 thousand TL; On the other hand, the revenue budget was 1 billion 349 million 260 thousand TL.
