Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerThe Mediterranean Biennial is organized within the framework of the vision of transforming İzmir into an art city. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality called the artists for the biennial between October 1 and December 5, 2022.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and K2 Contemporary Art Center made an open call to artists for the Izmir Mediterranean Biennial, which will be held between October 1 and December 5, 2022. Curated by Caroline David, the event will bring together 23 young artists from 30 countries with the people of Izmir. The curators Sana Tamzini João Ribas, Didem Yazıcı and the Executive Director of the Young Creators Biennial from the Mediterranean Network (BJCEM) Federica Candelaresi will serve as creative consultants at the event. The destination of the biennial will be the ancient places of Izmir. The theme of the event was determined as “Looking at the Same Water” in order to study the cultural and historical codes of the Mediterranean.

The first of the Izmir Mediterranean Biennial is held with young artists as part of the 2022 European Youth Year. The biennial determined the age criteria by taking the standards of BJCEM, of which Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is a member, as a reference. İzmir Mediterranean Biennial aims to open space for new forms of expression by emphasizing the “young” in the context of BJCEM standards and the European Youth Year.

Who can apply?

Young artists who want to participate in the Izmir Mediterranean Biennial http://www.izmirakdenizbienali.com The form must be filled in by June 1st. The open call is open to artists aged 35 and under who were born or live in Mediterranean countries.

Caroline David, Curator of the Biennale

Contemporary art specialist Caroline David has curated several exhibitions.
