A car with foreign license plate coming from Georgia to Turkey was evaluated as risky at Sarp Customs Gate. It was observed that one of the passengers tried to unload 2 bags from the vehicle before the x-ray scan, from the vehicle that was first sent to the x-ray scan and then to the search hangar. Conservation teams immediately intervened and seized the packages in question.

When the bags in question were opened, a surprising sight emerged. In total, 2 water turtles were captured, hidden in cloth bags in 1100 bags.

The turtles, which were wanted to be brought into the country and traded illegally, were delivered to the Artvin Branch Directorate of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Hopa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office continues the judicial investigation carried out against the foreign national who wants to bring water turtles into our country illegally.
