Countdown Starts for Domestic and National Observation Satellite İMECE

IMECE, the first domestic and national observation satellite with "sub-meter resolution", will be launched on January 15, 2023. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that the İMECE satellite will be launched on January 15, 2023. Erdogan made a statement after the cabinet meeting; “Another good news is about the launch date of our IMECE satellite, which we developed and produced with domestic and national resources that will take our country one step further in the space race. The space journey of our IMECE observation satellite, which will provide high-resolution visibility from all over the world, will begin on January 15, 2023. I wish good luck to our satellite, which will fill our data gap in many areas from mapping to agricultural applications.” used the expressions.

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank also shared a post on the subject from his social media account. Varank made the following statements in the post; "The countdown has begun; Target 2023! President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that our domestic and national earth observation satellite İMECE will be launched into space on January 15, 2023! As we take firm steps forward to 2023, we say that we are in the space race!”

THE FIRST NATIONAL OBSERVATION SATELLITE IN SUB-METER RESOLUTION

For the first time in Turkey, an electro-optical satellite camera with sub-meter resolution was developed by TUBITAK UZAY and integrated into IMECE, and an important step was taken in meeting Turkey's high resolution image needs with domestic resources.

It is aimed to obtain the first image within 48 hours after the launch from the domestic and national IMECE Satellite developed by TÜBİTAK UZAY.

Observation satellite IMECE developed with national means; BİLSAT was equipped with the experience gained from RASAT and GÖKTÜRK-2 satellites.

In IMECE, which will serve in a simultaneous orbit with the sun at an altitude of 680 kilometers, the equipment developed by TUBITAK UZAY, especially the flight computer, electro-optical camera, electric propulsion system, power, communication and orientation trajectory determination subsystems, is equipped with a TUBITAK UME magnetometer and magnetic torque rod. ; TÜBİTAK MAM contributed with fixed solar panels.

In addition, IMECE Satellite, which will obtain high resolution images from all over the world, especially Turkey, without geographical restrictions; It will serve in many areas such as target detection and diagnosis, natural disasters, mapping, agricultural applications. The design duty life of the satellite, which can be used for civil and military purposes, is stated as 5 years.

In addition, the IMECE Project will not only have critical technologies that will form the basis of the satellites that Turkey will have in the future, but will also contribute to the acquisition of manpower and knowledge acquired in the field of space technologies. In this way, high added value
