President Erdoğan Puts the Final Point on Additional Increase to the Minimum Wage

President Erdoğan put an end to the minimum wage debate in an interview with journalists after his visit to Uzbekistan. Regarding the issue of the second minimum wage increase in July, Erdoğan said, “I do not find it right to tell my citizen something that will deceive him, that is, something we will not do or do. There is a commission to set the minimum wage. It meets every year. So it's time for December. If the minimum wage really pushes my citizens against inflation, the negotiations will be determined accordingly," he said. Pointing out that there are opportunists who want to turn red meat into an opportunity, Erdoğan stated that they are determined to make people eat cheap meat.

President Erdoğan said, “Is a second increase in the minimum wage on the agenda in July? Retirees are wondering about the holiday bonus. Will you have a holiday good news?" When asked, he said:

“I do not find it right to tell my citizen something that will deceive him, that is, something that we will not do or do. There is a commission to set the minimum wage. It meets every year. So it's time for it. When the time comes, the unions that are responsible for the minimum wage and the Ministry of Labor sit down, talk and take my name. This is the situation. The point of whether it is an extraordinary situation is discussed there again. In other words, if the minimum wage really pushes my citizens against inflation, the determination will be made accordingly in those negotiations.

When there is an extraordinary development, we are not closed to them. They are in constant contact and meeting with the trade unionists, especially with my Minister. Whether there is such a thing or not, we already see it. As you know, we have brought the minimum wage to a different point by making an unprecedented increase in the minimum wage. In another step, we made increases regarding retirees. From now on, we will continue to do our best to make the lives of our citizens easier.”

Meat prices

Expressing that there are currently some opportunists who want to turn red meat into an opportunity, President Erdoğan continued his words as follows:

“I talked to my Minister of Agriculture about this issue. He said, 'Let's slaughter the animals for slaughter in our TİGEM farms as soon as possible and let's get cheap meat into the houses this Ramadan.' In the meantime, maybe send your teams all over Turkey, depending on the situation, and let us buy these animals from those who have slaughter animals. Let's take a step towards the post-Ramadan period, again at the point of import. Because we are determined to make our citizens eat cheap meat. We said that we have to achieve this in minced meat and cubed meat. We said that if we bring it as a carcass, we can take these steps in carcass meat. Our Minister of Agriculture will first do his work all over our country, and then he will continue to work on what we can do in imports. Apart from that, we have already left the winter season behind, we have entered the summer, and it is time to plow the field in the next period. We will not have any problems.”

“The farmer produces derivatives of milk from all kinds of animals at home”

“How do you evaluate the comments made on the recipe you gave about buffalo yoghurt?” President Erdogan made the following evaluations on the question:

“It is as if Turkey is a buffalo-poor country. Can my people in Anatolia find any kind of yoghurt they want from the market they want? He finds buffalo yogurt, sheep yogurt, and goat yogurt. Besides, he's already making it himself at home. It does not stay with it, it also produces all kinds of butter from it. My farmer and villager in Anatolia produces the derivatives of all kinds of animal milk with cheese, yoghurt and butter in their own home. When this is the case, he says, I said honey. Okay, who's there in front of me? Tokat has beekeepers. They do honey work. What am I saying? I'm talking about a teaspoon of chestnut honey. I'm talking about one more thing. I say oats. Do I have a farmer in Anatolia who does not have oats? They all have it at home. I talk about this with the farmers in front of me there, and it is a natural happiness for all of the farmers. Why? You share what's on his table."
