The Ministry of Interior has sent a letter to 100 municipalities with a population of over 215 thousand regarding the construction of women's guesthouses. In the 2 Activity Plan for Combating Violence Against Women, which was sent to the governorships by the Ministry on April 2022, it was requested to carry out work in accordance with the provision in the 5393th article of the Municipality Law No. .
Within this framework, 100 municipalities with a population of over 215 thousand across the country are obliged to establish women's guesthouses.
In the letter sent by the Ministry to 215 municipalities in line with the circular, municipalities that have an obligation to open women's guesthouses and have not yet worked on this issue should open women's guesthouses by the end of this year.
Governors Will Be Followers of the Process
In the circular, the effect of women's shelters in combating violence against women was emphasized and the governors were instructed to follow the works of the municipalities to open women's shelters, to provide the necessary coordination and to report the progress reports on the activities in this field to our Ministry in bi-monthly periods.
