Governor Münir Karaloğlu: “This and similar activities will continue in order to bring to light our values related to the art of rosary, which is one of the important values we have carried from the past to the present in Diyarbakir”

Diyarbakır Governor Münir Karaloğlu opened the "La Havle" rosary exhibition, which was created in Diyarbakır as a result of fine craftsmanship and long efforts, adorned with Ottoman and Mevlevi motifs.

Metropolitan Municipality Department of Culture and Social Affairs continues its activities within the framework of "Feqiyê Teyran Culture and Art Season".

The "La Havle" rosary exhibition, which was opened in the Manuscript Library in the Ulu Mosque in the historical Sur district, consists of Mahir Turaner's collection.

The exhibition includes rare prayer beads made of different materials and decorated with Ottoman and Mevlevi motifs, with the most precious examples of rosary art.

Rosaries made of Najaf, elephant, mammoth tusk, Ottoman amber, dice and crosses draw attention with their motifs and embroidery works that emerged as a result of handwork and long efforts.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Governor Karaloğlu said that the rosary, one of the most beautiful of Islamic art, is a sign of gratitude, praise and patience.

Talking about the binding effect of the rosary gift on friendship, Karaloğlu continued as follows:

“We will open a rosary exhibition consisting of rare works in the collection of Mahir Turaner, who lives in Diyarbakir and is one of Turkey's most important rosary collectors. Hopefully, we will make this traditional in the last week of Ramadan every year. Because Diyarbakir has a very important rosary culture. Here is one of our important values, where rosary auctions are held at mosque doors, between the old bazaars, and people give and sell rosaries to each other, this exhibition is opening today. These and similar activities will continue in order to bring to light our existing values related to the art of rosary, which is one of the important values we have carried from the past to the present in Diyarbakir.”

Wishing the exhibition good luck, Karaloğlu invited the citizens to visit the exhibition.

After the speech, Karaloğlu, Turaner, Sur District Governor and Deputy Mayor Abdullah Çiftçi, Culture and Tourism Provincial Director Cemil Alp cut the opening ribbon of the exhibition and opened it to the public.

Collector Turaner gave information about the prayer beads to Karaloğlu and those who visited the exhibition.

The exhibition, which aims to explain and remember the rosary culture, will be open until 7 May.
