Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, Gaziemir Aktepe and Emrez participated in the launch of the first phase of the urban transformation area. At the meeting, where the Gaziemir Emrez Cooperative Sales and Promotion Office, where project work will be carried out, was opened at the same time, President Soyer emphasized that a union of forces was initiated in İzmir by including cooperatives in the urban transformation process. President Soyer said, “As a human being, I am proud that business people from İzmir take responsibility for urban transformation and during these difficult days of the economy. I am very happy that we have established this exemplary unity in our city.”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has taken another important step for the urban transformation works covering Gaziemir Aktepe and Emrez neighborhoods. The first phase, which includes 151 residences and 37 workplaces on an area of 448 thousand 287 square meters, was launched with a cost of approximately 10 million liras. At the same time, the Gaziemir Emrez Cooperative Sales and Promotion Office, where the project studies will be carried out, was opened, and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the meeting. President Tunç SoyerStating that they continue their urban transformation works in İzmir with patience and determination despite the economic crisis that Turkey and the world are going through, he said, “We have a comprehensive and principled roadmap. We will complete the transformation of İzmir by taking concrete steps today within a medium-term plan. We realize this transformation not by groping, but by revealing our body.”

Reminding that the transformation that started simultaneously in six regions, Gaziemir, Ege Mahallesi, Uzundere, Ballıkuyu, Çiğli Güzeltepe and Örnekköy, continues, President Soyer emphasized that they increased the gear even more by signing 4 separate contracts in a short period of 3 months last March. Stating that as Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, they do not see urban transformation as merely demolishing old buildings and constructing new ones instead, Mayor Soyer said, “There is transformation in place at the core of our understanding. At the heart of this new understanding is green transformation. We are establishing the new living spaces of İzmir with its infrastructure, green areas, social centers, game and sports facilities. We are making this transformation with 100 percent consensus, without alienating our citizens from where they live. We transfer the rent not to a handful of privileged segments, but to the owners of that neighborhood, to our citizens," he said.

Emphasizing that they have made İZBETON a strong actor in urban transformation, Mayor Soyer said: “İZBETON implements our urban transformation vision in İzmir without slowing down despite the economic difficulties. While doing all this, we have only one goal. To increase the welfare of İzmir and to ensure its fair share. İZBETON A.Ş. and Business People Gaziemir Housing Building Cooperative officials, 287 residences and 10 workplaces will be built within the scope of the first phase of the Aktepe-Emrez Urban Transformation Project. The first phase of Gaziemir Urban Transformation Area consists of seven blocks with residences and workplaces.
A protocol was signed between İZBETON, a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Municipality, and Business People Gaziemir Housing Building Cooperative on February 1, to start the first phase construction works in January.
