Fainting, which is a loss of consciousness caused by decreased blood flow to the brain, can occur for simpler reasons such as fatigue as well as serious health problems. Anadolu Medical Center Pediatric Neurology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Sinan Çomu said, “With this feature, fainting is like an insurance for the brain. If the fainting patient or child is held upright so that they do not fall, blood flow will become more difficult, which may cause conditions such as convulsions and rolling in the eyes. Therefore, the patient should be placed in a supine position. Also, fainting can be a symptom of anemia, chronic illness, or some serious psychological condition. When the first fainting occurs, a pediatrician, cardiologist or pediatric neurologist should be evaluated.”

Conditions leading to sudden blood loss, vagal nerve reflex in cases of fear or seeing blood, excessive excitement, standing for a long time especially in hot and stuffy environments, sudden movements when hungry, standing up suddenly during sluggish periods of the body, urination on foot and in rare cases leading to hair combing. Fainting may occur in children as a reflex that it opens.

Anadolu Health Center Pediatric Neurology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Sinan Çomu said, “If the blood flow to the brain does not improve seconds after these sensations, which are also called presyncope, unconsciousness, that is, fainting, is seen. To prevent fainting, it's best to ignore the blackout, dizziness, or tinnitus for a few seconds before fainting, sit briefly, and then resume the movement when you've recovered. Of course, it is also important to maintain the general nutritional and fluid balance of the body.

The fainted person should not be tried to stand.

Warning that the patient should be placed in the supine position during fainting, Pediatric Neurology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Sinan Çomu said, “If it is thought that there is something in your mouth, it is better to lay it on its side. Lifting the legs up and moving the patient to an airy and comfortable environment also facilitates the recovery of consciousness. Refreshing with water or cologne, drinking a sugary liquid after regaining consciousness also helps. In case of ongoing unconsciousness, the patient should be transported to the nearest health institution, preferably by ambulance. Keeping the patient upright so that he does not fall is a mistake that prolongs fainting and causes a seizure-like appearance.
