The 696th anniversary of the conquest of Bursa was celebrated with a ceremony in front of the Conquest Gate in Pınarbaşı, where Ottoman soldiers entered the city. The ceremonies, which started with the recitation of the victory prayer, continued with the visit of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi tombs and the demonstrations in front of Balabanbey Castle.

The anniversary of the conquest of Bursa by Orhan Gazi 696 years ago was celebrated with ceremonies. Bursa Governor Yakup Canbolat, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, Osmangazi Mayor Mustafa Dündar, headmen, civil and military officials and citizens attended the ceremonies held at Fetih Kapı. After the military band and sword shield teams took their place on the walls of the conquest gate, the ceremonies began with the singing of the National Anthem and the sala of the conquest. Uludag University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Nilüfer Alkan Günay talked about what happened during the conquest and the development process of the city.

Polar star

Speaking at the ceremony, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş reminded that Bursa is a perfect city where the past and the future blend in harmony. Expressing that Bursa, the cornerstone of Ottoman urban civilization, guided a great geography like a pole star, Mayor Aktaş said, “Many different civilizations have passed through these lands. Osman Bey also saw that the way to pass from the principality to the state passed through Bursa. The conquest of Bursa, which started with Osman Gazi, could be completed in 1326 during the time of Orhan Gazi. With the works carried out after the conquest, Bursa, as Tanpınar puts it, has moved to today as the city that hid the atmosphere of its founding age. Bursa is an ancient city where the foundations of the greatest civilization this geography has ever seen were laid, its spirit was shaped, and my Lord blessed it abundantly. These lands are the lands where the world state was born. Bursa; It is the entrance gate of the Ottoman Empire from the principality to the state with 400 tents, it is the dibace of the Ottoman Empire. We are also experiencing the excitement of celebrating the 696th Anniversary of the conquest of Bursa as the 2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture. On this occasion, I commemorate our ancestors who dedicated their life and sacrificed their lives to leave these lands to us. I commemorate with mercy and gratitude those who contributed to this city, from Osman Gazi to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and wish the 696th anniversary of the conquest of Bursa to be a fruitful one.”

The ceremonies at Fetih Kapı ended with Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca Anatolian High School 12th grade student Ömer Kaan Bilgin reciting Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar's poem Time in Bursa, mehter marches and the performance of the sword shield team.

President Aktaş and the protocol members followed the changing of the guard in front of the Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi tombs in Tophane. After the prayer of the Deputy Provincial Mufti Yavuz Yıldız, the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi were visited.

Conquest ceremonies ended with activities in Balabanbey Castle.
