Turkish Space Agency Shared New Developments About Moon Mission

Turkish Space Agency (TUA); On March 16, 2022, on his official social media accounts, he shared new developments about the National Hybrid Propulsion System (HIS), which will carry the spacecraft to the lunar orbit in the Lunar Research Program (AYAP-1 / Moon Mission). DeltaV Space Technologies; AYAP-1 is developing the hybrid propulsion system that will carry the spacecraft developed by TUBITAK Space to the moon. According to the information conveyed by TUA, the preliminary design process of the system called the National Hybrid Propulsion System (HIS), the production of the first flight-scale test prototype and the production and installation of the test system, where flight-scale ground tests will be carried out, have been completed.

In the post about the National Hybrid Propulsion System (HIS), the skeleton, valve, system electronics, oxidizer tanks and hybrid engine of the HIS were shown. According to the mission concept of AYAP-1, the spacecraft will first be transported to space with a launcher. Then the spacecraft; After performing phases such as system initialization, roll damping and BBQ mode, it will perform orbital tests. After the tests in Earth orbit, the hybrid engine developed by DeltaV will fire to enter the lunar orbit.

The spacecraft that will make a hard landing on the moon; It was reported that the stages of Mission design, Operation concept, Orbits design and Mission analyzes were completed. The detailed design of the spacecraft in accordance with the system architecture continues. It has been stated that the design activities of the spacecraft continue in the statement given by the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank in the Criterion magazine and in the interview given by TUA President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım at the GUHEM Exhibition.

Moon Research Program Projects

While progress in space technologies continues rapidly in Turkey, the first project within the scope of the Lunar Research Program will be realized in order to expand the limits of existing capabilities and have a say in the international arena. Within the scope of this first project, which will be the flagship for our space industry and technologies, a spacecraft that will reach the Moon from the Earth and collect data from there will be developed and mission operations will be carried out. In addition, our competitive power in the space technologies market will be increased by adding deep space history to many national systems and products to be developed. Finally, an important future-oriented capability will be gained in making our presence on the Moon sustainable and protecting our country's rights on the Moon.

Within the scope of the first project of the Moon Research Program, TÜBİTAK UZAY will take responsibility as a project manager organization by combining its pioneering role from the past with its experience. TÜBİTAK UZAY has demonstrated its project management, system engineering, system-equipment-software development, subsystem production, system integration, space environment tests and spacecraft operation (operation) capabilities and R&D capability gained so far in the design, development and operations of the spacecraft. aims to achieve success by highlighting. In addition, hybrid propulsion technology and experience developed by the national space industry will be transferred to this project and a national hybrid propulsion system suitable for space vehicles will be developed.
